Default painting kilner jar metal rings

Hi

I have a selection of Kilner jars and the metal tops or rings are
rusty. As I cannot find replacements could I wire brush them and paint
them with a potable water paint ?

Any other ideas gratefully recieved

Thank you

Paul

Wait for someone here to tell you where to get replacements or buy
new jars.
