I tried out watermelon rind pickles from Joy of P~~ for
this morning's market, much interest. The recipe said to trim away all the pink - but I Like Pink. It does have kinda sqooshy texture compared to the rind, but it's pretty. One lady said the recipe was too sweet, I agree. I didn't have a lemon, but had the lemon juice. A recipe from the internet said the lemon was optional. Woulda helped I think. Sold a lot of red wine pickled beets (JOP) and mixed 'winter' sweet pickle (SBP), also both versions in no-sugar, Splenda added. One lady remembered her mother who recently passed away, and her Pops was lonely, bought pickles like Mom had made and would share them with her dad. She cried. Made my day. Bought 2 more cases vinegar, 1 quart of local honey, and schmoozed with a farmer with nice okra. He was roasting chiles today - my instant smell of home.
