Ophelia, on my machine, the fractional measures for the shallots,
sultanta, sugar, and ginger are coming through as pi signs. What are
those measures?

That's not what I see.......I see

a quarter pound chopped shallots
a half a pound chopped sultanas
a half a pound white sugar
a quarter teaspoon ground ginger

possible typos with the sultanas and sugar, Ophelia?

I am not sure Kathi. I haven't made it for a few years.

I was typing it from notes that I had taken ages ago.. It was in a Delia
Smith book which is now packed away with the rest of my books as I prepare
to move house

I will have look on line to see if it is on her website.

Nope it isn't showing.

I will check when I can.

Now if I can only remember it next time I see it in a recipe: Pi ‚
3.14159, pi = 1/4 of x
Thanks, Toots.

I guess it makes sense that the two different symbols, which appear to
be uppercase and lowercase wouldn't be the same fractional measure.
Thanks. I guess pi‚1/4x

Hi.

Are sultanas just raisins or are they a special type of raisin?

Thanks.

IIRC sultanas are "blonde" raisins, ie made from dried white grapes
instead of the dark grapes. Been awhile since I bought any but think
that is right. I'm sure I will be corrected by someone more
knowledgeable on this list if I'm wrong.

George
