Default Dried oranges?

I posted in rec.food.cooking about dried fruit from Meduri's and then got to
wondering whether I could make the same stuff at home.

The product I'm specifically interested in is dried mandarin orange slices.
From the picture in the catalog, these are dried orange segments without the
rind. Has anyone ever made anything similar? If so, can they be made by
someone who doesn't have any special food drying equipment and who has never
dried any food before?

The Meduri ones cost about $25 for 18 oz., so if I could make them myself
I'd be saving oodles of money. Here's a link to the Meduri oranges:

They look rather plump in the picture, not at all like some orange
slices that I dehydrated once. Probably pumped full of sugar somehow...

I would try using canned mandarin orange segments (in light syrup) and
dry them on a food dehydrator and see what happens. (I have a few cans;
I just might try it) BTW, dehydrated canned pineapple is marvelous.

You'll never make something like that without a specialized food
dehydrator, but they are not all that expensive.
