I make 6 pints of Grape Jelly according to the directions on the
"Sure-Jell" pamphlet. -4 cups Grape Juice ( from real grapes, but had to add 1 cup of unsweetened grape juice, since I didnt get enough juice from 4 lbs of grapes ) -7 cups Sugar -1 packet of Sure-Jell I processed the Jars in a canner. Still after 12 hours the contents of the jars is syruppy. Shouldn't it have set by now? It seemed thin when I was pouring it into the jars. Can I re-open the jars and re-cook and add more pectin or are all 6 jars a wash? |

Doesn't the recipe use 4-1/2 cups sugar to 4 cups liquid? http://tinyurl.com/qsp84 processed the Jars in a canner. Still after 12 hours the contents of the jars is syruppy. Even assuming the proportions are correct, give it two weeks--12 hours isn't nearly long enough to start to worry. Twenty-four is a more of a minimum. If after 2 weeks it hasn't set, try this: http://tinyurl.com/lbd86 -- to respond (OT only), change "spamless.invalid" to "verizon.net" http://www.thecoffeefaq.com/ |
