Default Survival kit

We, the living, are the luckiest living creatures of all times. Just to be
fertilized, ten million wigglies gave their life so that one lonely sperm
could penetrate that tough skin around the egg to become - you- me.

We have not been faced with serious challenges in most parts of this
country... this continent. Sure, there are exceptions. But the Katrina thing
and the indolent welfare recipients waiting for help from others is a clear
message for those of us who appreciate life and opportunity.

So I am proposing the development of a survival kit based on food for a
month or more for a family of four that does not weight more than forty
pounds... ten pounds per person to carry forth. Water will be something else
and I will not dwell on water.

But a pan to boil is essential. Then pinto beans, rice, dried chile, dried
split peas, peanuts, chocolate, salt, fideo, maza, tortillas in sealed
packages, unleavened dough, coffee, cornmeal, pemmican, lard, jerky, dried
fruit like peaches, apples, prunes -

Remember that a plate with the same weight of a steak made of nothing but
rice and beans will yield the equivalent nutrient value. Focus on high
nutrition content at minimum weight.

Anybody care to contribute to this list?

Wayne

Extra gas bottles for the outdoor grill - I always keep 2 spare 5 gallon ones.
The biggest problem is water. you need lots and purification tablets or a bottle
of bleach and an eyedropper - do you know how much to use?

Don't forget - matches and TP.

TP!!! So easy to forget.... so desperate when needed!

Never go into Mexico without a roll of TP handy. In the bus station they
sell TP at the little surrounding stores and it sells well. Few Mexican WCs
have TP.
