At $2.60 a can and $1.75 per avocado, this had better be served to *very* good friends. :-) OTOH, I *love* Frito-Lay bean dip, and a big can of refried beans can be found for 59 cents. I've checked CopyKat and TopSecretRecipes -- no info. I'd love to be able to make something similar. Has anyone come close with a recipe? |

Great Chip Dip
You know what else makes a goof bean dip....A large can of refried beans, a
small can of taco salsa(a matter of taste) and allot of grated Mexican cheese...or longhorn cheddar...whatever you prefer Mix all together and melt on low heat....place into a fondue dish...or any kind of warmer dish and serve with tortilla chips...Yummy Sometimes I will add some onion powder. |

It ain't Frito-Lay, but it's pretty darn good, if my game group has any taste<g> Game night dip 1 lb 80/20 ground beef 20.5 oz can Rosarita refries 1 small block VELVEETA!!! 4 oz Mexican frying cheese 1 jalapeno 1 serrano Spices (granulated garlic, ancho chili powder, oregano, cumin, pepper) 3 - 4 green onions 1 C sour cream Hot sauce(s) Brown ground beef w/ spices and finely chopped peppers (I devein/seed the serrano, chop the 'peno whole) in large sauce pan. Drain fat from pan once beef is cooked, add refries and heat to bubbling. Cube up velveeta and add, stir until melted. Crumble 4 oz of queso and mix in with green onions. Add hot sauces (I use Buffalo brand chipotle and Cholula) and season to taste. Mix in sour cream completely and serve in bowls w/ chips. Dip should be slightly liquid. Jason |

To my unsophisticated taste, those bean dips are just refried beans thinned down and spiced up. I just open up a can of refried beans, then open up the fridge and pull out some salsa. I put them together and nuke them. Mix it up good and eat with tortilla chips. If the heat isn't right, add hot stuff to taste. Sometimes I add grated cheese. You want to mix the cheese in, nuke it until the cheese melts, and then mix again. -- Dan Abel Sonoma State University AIS |
