Default Ideas about ice cream, guinness and whiskey documentaries - on audio book

Hi all
Found some rather interesting documentaries on audio book format I've
just bought by foodie dad for Christmas.

There's Ideas about Guiness
"The black brew with the thick creamy top was created by Aruthur
Guinness in 1759. A documetary on cassette"
Ideas about Whiskey
"Paul Kennedy, host of the long-running CBC Radio show IDEAS, takles a
topic that's close to both his heart and the heart of Scotland."
And Ideas about Ice Cream (my fave)
"Ice cream has its own mythology, dating back to Nero. It boasts its
own statistics. The biggest sundae ever made was 12 feet high..."

The link is:

Merry Christmas everyone

Do they cover "strong back"? I have often wondered how the heck that
originated. (Or, in general, how Guinness managed to entrench its
reputation as a health drink. My earliest memory of the stuff is of
my father at home c. 1957 recovering after an operation, drinking it
because he'd been told it was good for him - he hardly drank any beer
at other times and was not particularly gullible).

I don't think that's just a Guiness thing. My German great-grandmother
advised my mother to drink stout to make better breast milk.

And they used to give it to nursing mothers back in the 50's in Uk.

Would that I, in those halcyon days of frenzied sexual activity, been
blessed to taste a breast or two nourished wi'Guiness. Pouring it upon
them as if it were champers to be lapped from their navels simply didn't
work and made'em sticky too.

I don't know where the idea came from, but I do remember my Great
Grandmother still drinking her crate of guinness a day. She had
started doing it in the late 19th century on the advice of her
doctor to build her up after the birth of her 8th son. She was
still doing it in the late 60's when she was 100 years old so it
may have worked for her:-) Shame I don't like the stuff:-(
