Default What is a herb called "bits?"

I found a recipe for pasties not long ago, and it called for "bits".
It was described as growing wild in hedgerows in north Cornwall, used
in pasties, and also by gypsies for medicinal uses. I haven't found
any more references to it than that, but wonder what it really is and
what it tastes like.
