Default Venice Herbs? anyone got any idea

Hi there,

Could someone please help me out here? I have a recipe that calls for
'Venice Herbs' as added ingredients. Does anyone knows what they consist
off? The recipe is for celeriac and was written (at least) the middle of
the 19th century (the book was written in 1856!).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Bernhard

"Richard Wright"

"1548 Turner Names Herbes (E.D.S.) 78 The greate kynde of
thyme,
wherof Dioscorides maketh mention of in Epithymo, is
called nowe
*Venetian thyme."
Apart from this the OED gives no citations relevant to
Venice Herbs

Google is only able to fetch up one:

http://losangeles.zami.com/Food_Market/L
Lee's Venice Herbs
2203 Venice Blvd - Los Angeles, CA
213-732-7890

I suspect the name of the establishment has more to do with
its address than with the nature of its herbs however it
just might be worth a phone call...
