Season 11 episode 2 "Pretzel logic" of Alton Brown's "Good eats" spends a
disproportionate (IMHO) amount of time on mustard preparation and the consumption of mustard in conjunction with pretzels--the fat puffy kind that are common in the NW United States. Where and when did this pretzel-mustard tradition get started? Oh and is it true that Philadelphia's per capita consumption of pretzels is 10 times the US average? And if so (or if not) why? -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com |

: Where and when did this pretzel-mustard tradition get started? In Germany? Actually, it appears to come from Philadelphia (in a mythical country called the Untied States). "In Philadelphia werden sie dagegen weich und frisch gebacken und mit Senf serviert." http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brezel -- "The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness." -- John Kenneth Galbraith |
