Thanks, Nickolas I bake mine draped over steel bowls...But if you want to french fry them there is a device. I like the device Andy posted. I've deep fried mine in a big assed pot but put the tortillas around a stainless bowl. The first time I tried it with the deep fryer and bowl failed. The second time was a success. I watched the heat. It took forever to make 4 of the bowls. Now I bake them. I've never had these but the idea appeals, sounds like a taco for those
that refuse to use their paws. Ae the bowls normally fried or baked ? What would be the preferred order of assembling the ingredients,, I would be tempted to start with the lettuce Steve Andy wrote: wrote in news:1151850345.823385.98370 @m73g2000cwd.googlegroups.com: How does one make these? I have never made one myself but if I did, I'd shred the lettuce, and toss everything together then fill the shell. I do prefer tacos, taquitos and burritos. But they'd be good for dips. Imho, Andy |

You'd have to flatten the bottom of the strainer so the shell doesn't wobble at the table. True, but that's do-able. :-) Looking at that contraption, I see a danger (perceived?) of lifting a fried shell full of hot oil out of the frier and having to tip it all back into the fryer without incident. If it fried upsidedown it would be a lot safer. Andy Excellent suggestion! I'm wondering if I could do this with a corn tortilla? I try to avoid wheat. -- Peace! If it fried upsidedown it would be a lot safer. This is what we call "overengineered" ![]() It's much simpler than all that. Stick a tortilla in a strainer or a large spider, hold it down in the center with whatever you have on hand (I use a fork), and fry it. It's all good and there's no special equipment required. I'll make it even easier for you. It doesn't even have to be very flat on the bottom. It can sit on the plate more or less tilted, cornucopia-like. You can put some refried beans underneath to hold it down if you feel like it. -- Reg |
