Default Flour tortilla bowls?

Probably. You'd have to flatten the bottom of the strainer so the shell
doesn't wobble at the table.

Looking at that contraption, I see a danger (perceived?) of lifting a
fried shell full of hot oil out of the frier and having to tip it all
back into the fryer without incident. If it fried upsidedown it would be
a lot safer.

This is what we call "overengineered"

It's much simpler than all that. Stick a tortilla
in a strainer or a large spider, hold it down in the center
with whatever you have on hand (I use a fork), and
fry it. It's all good and there's no special equipment
required.

I'll make it even easier for you. It doesn't even have
to be very flat on the bottom. It can sit on the
plate more or less tilted, cornucopia-like. You can
put some refried beans underneath to hold it down
if you feel like it.

Or just put it in a bowl....... ;-)
