Default Random Acts of Sweetness

OK, so it's clever marketing. But I confess to paying attention to the
print ad that led me to the website below. So many ads for things are
based on the idea of indulging *yourself*, it is quite radical to have a
product being promoted on the premise that you can use it to make other
people happy.

Saving the world one cupcake at a time (cupcakes are very fashionable at
the moment) is a bit fantastical, but it's a great antidote to the
nausea induced by the ad for the planet wrecking SUV on the previous page.

This is too weird...two years ago my sister and I entertained the idea
of giving up our day jobs and going full time into the cupcake business
after taking on a few nice jobs doing weddings, baby showers, etc., and
the support and approval that came from all of that. I distinctly
recall our discussion about what we would call the business, and while
we didn't agree on the name, we agreed on the message tag: "Making the
world a better place, one cupcake at a time!" I guess it's everywhere.
;-D

When I was in NYC last September (with Aussie relos) we made the
pilgrimage to the Magnolia Bakery which is so famous for cupcakes.
Disappointed!! We just marveled at how a bakery could become so
prominent for such common stuff, and not just charge a fortune for it,
but post signs alerting patrons to the LIMIT you were allowed to buy
because of the crowds lined up to get in. Feh! I'd love to challenge
them to a blind taste of my cupcakes vs. their's any day.

But isn't that usually true? Home-made (when it's well done) versus
store bought? Not that I'm going to claim goodness for my cupcakes -
they're okay but nothing special - but I know the bakers out there
could knock my socks off. And I don't mean the professional bakeries, I
mean the at-home kind.

If anybody cares to share a few tidbits about how to make cupcakes
really special, that'd be a goodness too.......
