Don't try to catch a falling dish - or you'll end up like me with a gash
in your left hand.

Sorry about your hand, but how did a falling dish gash you unless it
was already broken?

Ham and eggs.
A day's work for a chicken, a lifetime commitment for a pig.

While we're talking safety, may I remind folks to never put their hand
inside a drinking glass while washing it. I've seen a lot of hands (always
the dominant ones) lacerated that way.

You're kidding, right? It's the one that slaps you when you're bad.

one of the worst cuts I suffered was from running up the stairs with an armful
of dishes to be washed. I tripped right at the top and everything smashed and
I bled like mad. Probably should have got stitches in a couple places but I
hate stitches more than I hate bleeding like that.

The dominant hand is the one that instinctively goes up and passes on the
Hawaiian good luck sign when you are cut off in traffic.

How silly. I've been washing dishes for 30 years and I've never
gotten injured from doing it.

Believe it or not, I was hand washing a plate and the thing just snapped.
No indication of a flaw on the surface, but it broke for no reason and cut
me straight down to the bone. I have a lovely scar to remind me of the
hazards of hand washing dishes. I wish I had a dish washer. Can I tap my
heels together 3 times and get one?

Not silly at all. It happens all the time, and in fact is one of the
commonest kitchen related ER emergencies. Ask any ER doc or nurse.

I have done worse :-( A few years ago I had a broken collar bone. There
isn't much to do for than type of injury other than to take lots of powerful
pain killers and try not to move the arm. A sling doesn't do much good. I
just held my arm across my chest most of the time. For the first few days I
made the mistake of moving my arm once in a while and I never had to move my
arm very far before I got a painful reminder about my injury.

One day I was home alone and rummaging around the top shelf of the fridge
looking for something to drink. I accidentally knocked the milk pitcher off
the shelf. It was an automatic reflex to reach out to grab it. My arm only
made it part way, just enough to flip it upside down. Then it fell straight
down and landed bottom side up, so all the milk was pouring out, half of it
running down the front to the floor and the other half under the vegetable
and fruit bins on the bottom shelf. I almost passed out from the pain before
I just sort of stood there screaming in pain. And all the while I was
watching the spill getting bigger and bigger, and knowing that I was going
to have to clean it up. That would mean moving the fridge out with one arm.

Unfortunately, it happened to me. Cut up my hand pretty bad.
