STDs Running Rampant In Retirement Community
Doctor Blames Viagra, Lack Of Sex Education

POSTED: 12:26 am EDT May 27, 2006
UPDATED: 2:12 am EDT May 27, 2006

Doctors said sexually transmitted diseases among senior citizens are
running rampant at a popular Central Florida retirement community,
according to a Local 6 News report.

A gynecologist at The Villages community near Orlando, Fla., said she
treats more cases of herpes and the human papilloma virus in the
retirement community than she did in the city of Miami.

"Yeah, they are very shocked (to hear the diagnosis)," gynecologist Dr.
Colleen McQuade said. "I had a patient in her 80s."

"More and more senior citizens are ending up in the gynecologist
office, and their diagnosis is a sexually transmitted disease," Local 6
reporter Vanessa Medina said.

Local 6 featured Louis Franklin, who used to date in the community at
least three times a week.

"I have had a better dating life since I have been here than I have
ever had," Franklin said. "I know there are things going around."

A doctor blamed Viagra, a lack of sex education and no risk for
pregnancy for the spike in sexually transmitted diseases at The
Villages.

"All I can repeat are the things I have heard which are things like,
'Should I bring the little blue pills over tonight?'" community singles
group president Richard Matwyshen said.

(snippage)

My parents live on an island which, while it wasn't intended to be, has
essentially turned into a retirement community. Mom tells me all kinds of
stories. The old man down the street is having a fling with the widow a
block over and everyone knows it. One couple actually did a real life
"trading spouses" thing because they all decided after 40 years they like
the other ones better. These folks are at least in their 70's. Who said
sex is dead after age 70? But they really should study up on STD's

I'm sorry, I must've missed the humor. Is it that people who are not "young
and beautiful" have sex and enjoy it? Or is it that people are too ignorant
to protect their health from STDs? Or ...?

Two senior funnies that really happened:

1. Hat found at a truck stop in Virginia:
"Sex after 60 is like shooting pool with a rope."

2. Back in the 80's, I worked for Prudential when they held the AARP
contract for supplemental medicare insurance. We all gathered around a
computer to look at a claim that was slowly building due to all the medical
needs the client had (you did this if you had an interesting case, and
wanted to show the others). At the bottom of the screen, the examiner had
the option of putting an ICBM code or a description of the injury/illness if
it defied coding. This one did. It read, 'Patient shot in testicles by
wife when found in bed with best friend.' Curiousity had someone call the
examiner for a better description. Seems Lothario was in bed with the
Mrs.'s best friend, she caught them, and both of them being deaf, didn't
hear her go and get the shot gun, lock and load and shoot off his manhood,
the friend got away while the Mrs. was picking herself off the floor from
the kick of the gun, (I think she broke her shoulder). The best part: He
was 102, the Mrs. 96 and the 'other woman' was 98.

You go granny. I want one that active at 102, and I'd like to think I would
shoot too!

That's funny. Reminds me of my mil. My fil was deep into Alzheimers,
they had a caregiver. My mil wasn't far behind in the dementia department,
truth be told. The caregiver had to help my fil bathe in the shower. My
mil
walked in on this activity and told off the caregiver in no uncertain terms,
GET YOUR OWN MAN!

Hilarious. Yeah, what a catch, my poor oblivious fil.
