Actually it came to SLP. "-)
Trader Joe's opened early last week in the near SW suburb of Minneapolis, St. Louis Park. I haven't looked at a newspaper in weeks so I missed the article and knew naught until Niece Patty asked me a couple times if I'd been. I knew it was coming but had other things on my mind.. It's about 15 miles and 20 minutes from me. By happenstance I parked on the street in front of it (I don't know the area all that well and didn't know there was a parking lot off street -- just as well -- it was full). I moseyed in and grabbed a basket. I figured for some Mojito sauce based on what Gloria Puester had posted, some cheese (said in the newspaper article to be considerably less expensive than Byerly's but I don't shop there anyway, some dried fruits (I needed dried cherries for brownies) and some tapenades. Along the way, my basket got very heavy and I snagged a cart. Eighty-four dollars later I went next door to the wine store for some vino for Rob. Four bottles of red stuff for $16 and change. Other stuff I got: trail mix stuff, fresh pineapple pieces, crackers, Italian pasta for 70 cents a pound, canned crab meat, rosemary ham, grilled vegetable bruschetta, jasmine rice, gyoza, frozen peaches. They didn't have any cioppino sauce, which is okay because I still have a couple three jars that Dimitri brought me. I liked it. I would never go on a weekend, though. That would be asking for trouble. I'm thinking about using some of the peaches (they look really nice) for Bloomer Droppers for Saturday. { Exported from MasterCook Mac } Bloomer Droppers Recipe By: Posted to r.f.cooking AGAIN by Barb Schaller, 5-23-06 Serving Size: 3 6 ounces lemonade concentrate 6 ounces vodka 18 ounces water 1 peach powdered sugar Blend together and freeze for slush drink. Four times the recipe will fill an ice cream bucket. -- -Barb http://jamlady.eboard.com Updated 5/22/2006, Church Review completed "If it's not worth doing to excess, it's not worth doing at all." |

I have this very same problem whenever I go into a good deli :-) Last time I went to get some olive oil, and approx $90 later walked out with a large variety of 'stuff'!! I went next door to the wine store for some vino for Rob. Four bottles of red stuff for $16 and change. $4 a bottle???!!! What sort is it? US, French, Italian??? It couldn't be Aussie for that price!! :-) Bloomer Droppers Is that the same as 'Drop your Knickers'?? -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia At this spectacle even the most gentle must feel savage, and the most savage must weep. When the Delmonico brothers were alive and ran their small Italian grocery store in NE Minneapolis, I could never get out of there for less than $30. (Twenty years ago.) It was an Experience. God rest their souls. I went next door to the wine store for some vino for Rob. Four bottles of red stuff for $16 and change. $4 a bottle???!!! On average, yes. :-) What sort is it? : Bloomer Droppers Is that the same as 'Drop your Knickers'?? Pret' near, Peter. Pret' near. I used to have a Bowen Mango tree in my back yard. One year there was a plethora of fruit and I had to come up with all these different ideas on what to use the fruit for. At about the same time, someone, for some unknown reason, gave me a bottle of Grand Marnier (at that time, I just drank beer!!). I opened the GM and it smelt like oranges, and I looked at the mangos and thought........Hmmmmmmmmm...... so I cut some up and poured some over and left it in the fridge for a couple of days. had some friends over for a dinner party and had got some cheap bubbles for the girls. So i put a spoonful of the 'marinated' mango in a large glass and topped it with bubbly. By the end of the night, I had nicknamed my drink "The Legopener" :-) -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia At this spectacle even the most gentle must feel savage, and the most savage must weep. The off-street parking associated with the TJ's in Seattle is hazardous to one's paint job. The spaces are striped to fit Pintos, and folks will try to park Explorers in them. I would never go on a weekend, though. That would be asking for trouble. You've got that right, unless you get there right at opening time. Cindy -- C.J. Fuller Delete the obvious to email me |

By happenstance I parked on the street in front of it I am SO jealous! You can't imagine how often Dear Daughter and I have kidded about renting a van and driving to San Diego to fill up at TJ and Ikea. As you may have noticed, it's not the kind of place you can send someone else with a list because there are too many impulse items you couldn't imagine unless you saw them in person. My mojito reference wasn't a cooking sauce, altho it sounds wonderful. Mine was a very nice, yummy drink with lime and mint and rum. I don't know about the TJs in other parts of the country, but in San Diego they have all kinds of beautiful bouquets and potted plants (including very healthy orchids) for great prices. Oh, and their chocolate bar selection is dynamite. Look for the tubs of mini cookies (choc chip and triple ginger gingersnaps) and the big jars of apricot sauce (yummy over desserts or pancakes/French toast). Aaargh. I've been told Denver will never get a TJ because we have Wild Oats and Whole Foods. Not. The. Same. Thing. at all. Sob. gloria p |

Sob. gloria p Not sure if this matters at all, but Wild Oats is about 1 block from one of our TJ's. We don't have a Whole Foods but we do have Mustard Seed that sounds like it's the same as Whole Foods from what I have read here. It's near by as well. |

Albuquerque has both of those, plus a Sunflower market, and we just got a Trader Joes back in March. It has to do with where the distribution centers are, from what I have read. Christine |
