Default Sauteed Cabbage

I have some sauteed cabbage on the stove, started with a bit of water
until it evaporated, then butter, salt and pepper and garlic. Would you
add anything else? Maybe some paresan??? We can't eat anything spicey,
so didn't want to put in cayenne or pepper flakes. Any suggestions?

Just before you take it off the stove, add a bit more butter and a
small bit of soy sauce. Not cheese. -aem

Some sliced apple and a little vinegar.

No, I wouldn't add anything at this stage, but next time you are making this
sauteed cabbage as you are describing making it, you could add some diced
onion, and eliminate or use a smaller amount of garlic along with the onion.
To make this dish a little more substantial, you could add a diced-small
potato. Butter on top of it all, if you are a butter-eater.

This is a comfort dish to me. DH only likes cole slaw and steamed cabbage,
and I will make it for myself as sort of a tonic when I'm not feeling too
chipper.

I saute cabbage in olive oil, with thinly sliced potato, onion and
garlic. I need hot pepper flakes in mine, but you can leave it out.

I did add some butter and thought about some soy sauce, but at the
last minute, put in some dried tarragon. Next time I'd use a bit more
(I love tarragon) and maybe try soy sauce. Dh liked it a lot, so I
guess I shouldn't change it too much.....Sharon

We are butter eaters...lol... too much so. But the onion addition
sounds good too. We live in the midst of onion farms and I buy a large
bag of spanish each summer. They don't last long though, since I put
lots of onion in my dishes. I don't think I'd like potatoes in it
though. It's a side dish for meat and potatoes. We had meat loaf and
garlic roasted potatoes with it. Thanks...Sharon

Poppy seeds are always fun with cabbage.
Dried dill weed works well too, especially with the butter.
Maybe a dash of dried lemon peel.

I like to finish sauteed cabbage with a bit of sour cream and fresh
dill.

Too late for this time, but next time you make it, you could leave out the
garlic and add some poppy seeds. Maybe a touch of paprika and/or sour
cream.

When you go in with the butter, add a pair of spoons of tomato passata, just
for the color. Of if you like it much, as my mum does, add a good cup of
passata.
I agree with the "no cheese" party.

Some cream cheese added makes for a richer sauce.

Standard recipes call for onions and red wine vinegar (well for red
cabbage)
