It depends on what you use them for. The only cherries for a pie are
sour cherries. There are two varieties of them and the difference
between them is subtle. There is a wider range of sweet cherry
varieties. I like them all but would say that the Queen Anne variety
are my least favourite. You can make great jam with sweet cherries or
with sour cherries.

I am in total agreement, Spitz. Absolutely spot on, you are. I made
Rhubarb Cherry Jam last week with fresh rhubarb from my garden patch and
frozen tart cherries from Door County, Wisconsin. Very nice.

I'm considering including some cherries with the rhubarb for a rhubarb
custard cake to serve this weekend.

I must say, too, that I appreciated the brevity of your post.

Are you sharing the recipe for the jam?

Yeah, well, you see, my newsreader has run amok and I can't seem to
control my posts these days. What I *tried* to do was ask a question
thusly: The ubiquitous strawberry/rhubarb combo, although delicious,
can wear thin on me after a time. Do any of you have recipes using a
cherry/rhubarb mixture, and if so, would you like to share? I can get
lots of both at the farmers' market right now, and I'd like to cook up
something a bit different.

Thanks,
Spitz

Wing it - make a rhubarb crisp and use 1/3-1/2 cherries in it.

Terrific idea, thanks! Ooh, or how 'bout a cobbler??!? That's it --
I'll do a rhubarb-cherry cobbler, make some ice cream to go with, and
I'm set! I love me some goooood cobbler.
