I just bought a cast iron chicken frying skillet and lid and also a 5
quart Dutch oven/lid, also cast iron. I ma new to cast iron cooking. Is there something I should do prior to using it the first time to protect/seal or whatever to it? Thanks, Mark Ferrante 'Quod scripsi scripsi' - 'What I have written I have Written.'-- Pontius Pilate |

Use them... just hang em from the giant pot rack and have a few brewskis while you dream about cooking. Sheldon |

Thanks, Mark Ferrante 'Quod scripsi scripsi' - 'What I have written I have Written.'-- Pontius Pilate Just depends. A lot of cast iron sold nowadays is seasoned at the factory and no special care is needed prior to cooking with it. The "care instructions" included with the cast iron should specify. Thanks, Mark Ferrante 'Quod scripsi scripsi' - 'What I have written I have Written.'-- Pontius Pilate It's helpful, but not 100% necessary. It will season with use. I'd fry bacon the first time just to get it started. :-) -- Peace! Om "My mother never saw the irony in calling me a Son of a bitch" -- Jack Nicholson |

Maybe you should search google for a seasoning recipe or two for your new pans. -- Charles The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.
