Default Wilted cabbage recipe?

I'm going to make grouper tonight, stuffed with lemon, cilantro,
garlic..........

I have cabbage I need to use up and I want to do *something* to it. Sauteed
fish on a bed of some sort of cabbage. I don't know what to do. Anyone
have suggestions?

Nothing goes better with fish than cole slaw.

Or just whack n' fry in butter with wide egg noodles.

Both are great ideas, Sheldon. Why didn't I think of cole slaw? Cabbage
and egg noodles I can see as well...... maybe with a little sesame oil?

Halve the cabbage, remove the core, slice it thinly, and stir-fry it with
salt and lots of pepper. No need to be fancy; the grouper will be the star
of the show.

When I make Ma Po tofu, and I sometimes serve it on a bed of stir-fried
cabbage instead of rice. Much lower carbs than noodles or rice, for those
who care about that kind of thing.

You could also make a bed of cole slaw, though I'd be careful to ensure that
the cole slaw dressing is compatible with the grouper seasoning. If your
grouper is going to be stuffed with lemon, cilantro, and garlic, maybe your
cole slaw can contain flavors like cumin, coriander, and red bell pepper.

Ah, Bob, excellent idea! I'm liking the sound of cumin and coriander in the
cabbage. Wish I had red bell pepper, but I don't. (It's really inexpensive
at the local veggie stand, now, too, but I can't get there before they
close.)

You've got me a'thinkin'............ Thank you!

I only suggested that as she said it was wilted.
Cabbage has to be wilted prior to attempting to make cabbage rolls......

It's more fun to start with wilted and make it firmly..... smirk

I sautee in a little butter and add a tad of garlic or granulated
garlic. Stir frequently. When it's just about al dente, throw in a T
or so of Italian dressing, toss, and cover to allow it to steam some
more. Turn off heat.

Another great idea. I still haven't made this yet and I have all the
ingredients you suggest. Now it's a toss-up between the Mexican idea and
your Italian idea. Thank you!

The one I posted is fairly simple and mildly flavored. I like to make
it as a side for many meats, and do so often. I have used it as a side
to grilled halibut, but that's the extend of my fish experience.

Mexican idea? Are you referring to the recommendation to use cumin and
coriander in the cole slaw? If so, I thought that in conjunction with the
lemon, cilantro, and garlic in the fish, it could arguably be called Indian
or Mexican, but that it fell best into the *Moroccan* category -- though it
wouldn't surprise me to run across it in Java or Australia, either.

Probably pretty good, wherever it comes from.

Bob
