El Tepeyac is great for the huge burritos, but if you want delicious
and subtle, La Serenata is not that far away:

Be sure to bring a bodyguard or put on a bullet-proof vest unless you've lived
in the area. (both places)

No website to offer, but you can picture me sitting on my 17th-floor balcony
in Boston's Back Bay, gobbling take-out Mex and downing as many Margaritas
as I can squeeze limes for.

Smile when you say such things, you'll scare people away. It's a big
city with the attendant need to stay alert but I've gone to both
restaurants many times for lunch and for dinner and never saw a reason
to be concerned. Boyle Heights is pretty peaceful nowadays. -aem

Good answer. Just keep on your toes at night in the rain!

Night/rain criminals. The best of times. No shadows/many reflections. No
description in the dark.

Victim of a junkie in an unmanaged parking lot at night in the rain. My
life worth: a gold chain with a Taurus bull charm on it.

Plus rain creates excellent sound cover. Makes it harder to hear
things like breaking glass (burglars), screams (muggers), etc. Some
criminals operate exclusively in the rain. Of course, exceptions
are made if they're especially dope sick and need more soon.

Glad you're OK.

Reg,

That was back in 1986. The cops gave me one piece of good advice after
filing my report... "If you ever see someone wearing your charm don't
accost them, they bought it from the pawnshop the junky sold it to for
heroin." Or something to that affect.

As I said, it's a big city. According to the LAPD there were 100
homicides in L.A. in the first quarter of 2006. Seems a lot, but the
figure for first quarter of 2005 was 132. Hence the comment, "pretty
peaceful nowadays." When I go back to Alaska I watch out for bad
weather if I'm out on a boat and I watch out for bears in the woods.
Here in L.A. I watch out for sudden irrationalities. When I post in
rfc I have to be alert for the surprisingly large number of people who
lack any sense of humor. There are hazards everywhere...... -aem
