Do you think that current education around food is sufficient bearing
in mind the current obesity problems that are being experienced in UK &
US?

IMO no. Obesity results from some combination of deliberate life style
choice, denial and lack of self discipline.

People living in the US and the UK know that obesity carries health
risks as well as being inconvenient. They also know that it is caused
by consuming more calories than are used and that the cure is some
combination of more exercise and fewer calories. Beyond that there are
innumerable plans from Ornish to Atkins designed in enough different
ways that there is probably something for everyone.

What further education could one envisage? The information is all
there and it's up to each of us to make our own choices.

Taking personal responsibility for oneself is rather unpopular these
days I know, but sometimes it is, alas, the only way.

Education on food isn't the issue, it is the lack of activity between the
eating that is the issue.

Of course not.

I can't speak for the UK, but in the US, education in general sucks
(except maybe for the high-end universities catering to the sons of the
world's princes).

For most americans, McDonald's Hamburgher U. has more influence on
eating habits than any version of the food pyramid.
