They instituted a smoking ban where I work starting the first of March
this year. ;-)

It's been "interesting".

Indeed. I tried those patches things years ago when smoking was banned
in the workplace here... never did a thing for me, except cost a lot of
money.

They are the biggest crock. They are totally unnecessary. They play on the
notion that tobacco is physically addictive. I don't think it is. I am
quite convinced that it is just a habit, an expensive, dirty, stinky,
unhealthy habit.

I made the mistake of having a few cigarettes after having quite smoking for
17 years. When I thought people were fed up with me bumming cigarettes off
them I decided to buy the occasional pack. Then I went on a trip with 4
heavy smokers, and came back with a pack a day habit that I kept up for a
few years. One day at the beginning of the year I ran out of cigarettes and
instead of going to the store to get more I thought that I should just
quit. No cravings, no urges. No cigarettes for 4 months. I don't miss them
and I don't think much about them. The odd time that I do briefly consider
the possibility of having a smoke I just inhale deeply and think about the
ability to do that without wheezing, about being able to run the stairs
without getting winded, or being able to swim a mile without gasping for
breath.

The best antidote for smoking that anyone ever told me about is to keep an
ashtray full of old cigarette butts. Any time you feel like having a smoke
just take a whiff of that dirty ashtray.

I quit cold turkey Wednesday, Sept. 1st, 2004, 10am. Didn't take drugs to
start or stop.

I'm lucky I've never been a smoker, but I seriously feel for my
co-workers that are........

They get really bitchy towards the end of the shift. G

I sure know it! What amazes me is that they have only instituted the no
smoking thing in your workplace so recently? Been like that here for
years...

Most ex-smokers I know did the "cold turkey" thing. Seems to be the only
thing that works.. and yet they continue to sell all those "cures"...
same as all those "diet" things...

Perhaps one of my lesser CotD submissions.

All the best,

They instituted a smoking ban at bars and restaurants in minneapolis and the
surrounding area. It was so strange going to a bar after that. Generally I
only smoke 3-5 cigarettes a day, not a big habit at all but I can go through
the better part of a pack when I'm out drinking. I had my vodka tonic in one
hand and had no idea what to do with the other. Strange.

They haven't banned them where I work and I don't think they will, there'd be
an uprising.

Heather,

I can confidently proclaim (WITHOUT HAVING MET YOU), that you'd be
infinitely more adorable if you didn't smoke.

this would imply that you find me to some degree adorable as it is which makes
me swoon a little!

Sigh.

I started smoking again about a year before my divorce when things were going
downhill. At my worst I was up to about a pack and a half. Now I just smoke a
few a day socially. It gets me away from my desk...or something like that. I
know I should give it up completely, but to be honest, I enjoy the few I have.

sometimes on the weekends I go without completely so its really just choice.

But I like being adorable, so i will consider it
