Default No Gag Gorgonzola

I really liked the salad dressing on the salad brought to our Easter
feast, and the couple that brought it said that they get it at Trader
Joe's. Since I had some things to pick up there anyway, I looked for
it. It has gorgonzola in it, not in huge chunks, in fact I never
noticed it when the salad was pre-dressed, but just drizzling it on you
see it. I decided to get it anyway, since I liked it. It is really
nice, and adds just the salt needed, the dressing is Trader Joe's
Champagne-Pear Vinaigrette, it's in the refrigerator case with the
veggies. I don't know if it's just not a strong type of cheese they
use, or if it is inferior quality, or if the vinegar and sweetness cut
the nasty blue cheese taste, but I definitely will get this again.
Funny thing is, Rich loves blue cheese, but doesn't like the pear
sweetness, so he won't really like this. He tolerated it, but I can't
see him choosing it on purpose.

Regards,
Ranee

What is nasty about blue cheese taste?
There are some great flavour combinations in the world, and one of my
favourite combinations is pear and blue cheese.

It's quite strongly flavored. I love it. My wife hates it. More for
me!

True. It's like people who don't like shrimp or lobster. It is just as
well because it helps to keep the price down.

Gorgonzola comes dolce or piquante. The dolce is not as strong and is
very creamy and soft. The piquante is stronger and dryer, although
never as crumbly as a Danish type or Wisconsin blue. There's a place
for both, but I don't think they substitute for each other.
If I write a recipe with it, I always specify which.

It's moldy tasting. And blue. And I don't like the taste at all,
and can only get it down in miniscule quantities.

I'd rather have pear and brie. That's why this was so remarkable to
me.

I agree. ;-)
My mom always loved it, I still cannot stand it to this day.

But I love brie rind. Go figure. G

I love Stilton, bleu cheese, Saga, gorgonzola and (yes!) limburger.
(and sharp, sharp Cheddar).

I have never had Stilton but I hear that it is good. No Roquefort on your
lists? I draw the line at Limburger. I tried it many years ago and thought
that it tasted like shit. Not that I would know, it's just what I imagine
shit would taste like. I had a taste of a similar cheese in Holland. My wife
had ordered a selection of cheeses that were served in shoe. Most of the
cheeses in the selection were pretty good, but there was one that tasted
like it has been in a show with a dirty food and for a long time. Lately, I
have been eating a lot of Gouda, Edam and Assiago.

Maybe that's what makes the limburger smell like feet??
