Many years ago a friend served this to me and I would like to have the recipe.
I recall that the bowl was lined with taco shells and there was lettuce and
ground beef in it. Thanks a lot.

No recipe needed, really. Just use taco ingredients: cooked, seasoned,
drained ground beef; diced tomato; diced onion; lotsa sliced lettuce;
maybe chopped green onion, cilantro, and/or black olives; broken up
taco shells or corn chips (not Fritos -- the larger dipping/nacho
types) and grated cheese with dressing of choice. Someone's mentioned
salsa and sour cream. I've used salsa and mayo -- equal amounts of
each. You can layer everything prettily (chips, meat, veg, lettuce,
cheese) like a giant taco, or toss with dressing just before serving
-- the chips will stay crispy for quite a while.

Depending on how much work you want to invest, you can also bake or
fry corn or flour tortillas in 'bowl' shapes to hold the other
ingredients.

For the taco salad dressing, I like to mix enchilada sauce with French
dressing.

It can be any meat you want. I often use shredded pork or shredded beef.
No reason you can't use shredded chicken. It's often used in enchiladas.

Ground beef which has been crumbled and sauteed with lots of Mexican seasoning.
Then in salad bowl put cut lettuce, lots of shredded cheese and chunks of
tomato (think of taco ingredients) . Just before serving put taco CHIPS in
with the rest and toss. It doesn't need much dressing. Rinse out saute pan
with a little water, add a little salad oil and toss with salad.
