No, this is not a bad-taste ethnic joke. This appeared in Wednesday's
Chicago Tribune, under the headline of "Praise the Lard." A Polish physician named Jan Kwasniewski published a book stating that the "ideal nutritional combo came from eating three grams of fat for every one gram of protein and half a gram of carbohydrates." In practice, this amounts to 250 grams of fat and 2900 total Calories per day. This diet has taken off among the Polish community in Chicago, particularly senior citizens. The sample meal plan published in the paper looks like this: BREAKFAST 2 slices homemade headcheese loaf with mustard 1 soft-boiled egg 2 cheese-lard pancakes with butter Tea with lemon (no sugar) LUNCH 2 slices baked blood sausage fried in bacon fat Tea with lemon (no sugar) DINNER Broth with 2 egg yolks Hash browns 1 strip bacon This makes Atkins look downright prudent, something I never thought I'd say. No, this is not a bad-taste ethnic joke. I presume you mean it wasn't _intended_ as such. Looking at the menu, I would say it is. I took it straight from the Chicago Tribune article. SO took one look at it and got chest pains. Cindy -- C.J. Fuller Delete the obvious to email me |

Now, I may not get this all right . . . I just saw a TV program on I think
PBS that was saying the big problem it is going to be to convince people that lard, real butter, fat is actually good and that the stuff they've been saying for years, is good is really bad like margarine etc. Seems that hydrogenated fats are the problem and are used in everything today because they were suposed to be good vs. the BAD natural stuff. Well, what bother some researchers was that when people started eliminating butter, lard etc, instead of the artery/heart problems going down, the number got worse and have continued to get worse for 30 years. Apparently the gov. knew about it and all kinds of payoffs were done to keep this info under wraps. As I said, from memory, a couple weeks ago. So it appears that the Polish diet compared to what one would normally eat is actually better for you. Hard to believe because all commercial breads, processed meats, baked goods, imitation butters are all made with these artery clogging hydrogenated oils. Some manufacturers are starting to eliminate them and go back to things like palm oil because it actually does less damage. Gawd, leave it to big business to screw the public for the sake of the almight dollar/currency and screwed them for 30 years. If you see the program advetising similar, check it out. It was quite enlightening. ----------------------------------------------------- "Cindy Fuller" wrote in message ... No, this is not a bad-taste ethnic joke.
