Default What are "pickling spices" ?

Hello all,
I am going to be making my first German Sauerbaten recipe. Almost
everyone that I have found call for "picklng spices" or "mixed
pickling spices". What are they, and can you buy them in the dried
spice sectio of the supermarket? Or do you have to mix your own. I
have never seen them before, but wasn't really looking. Any help?

You can usually buy them in the spice section of the supermarket. It's a
mixture of mustard seeds, cinnamon, mace, cardamom, juniper berries, ginger
root, bay leaf pieces, cayenne pepper, allspice, etc. Mustard seeds
usually make up the biggest component.

You'll find them ready mixed in the spice department of your supermarket.

From Epicurious.

pickling spices
A spice blend used in mixtures to PICKLE various foods, as well as to season
certain dishes. The blend can differ greatly according to the manufacturer,
and the ingredients (usually whole or in coarse pieces) can include
allspice, bay leaves, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, ginger, mustard
seeds and peppercorns. Prepackaged pickling spice mixes are sold in most
supermarkets.
