Default What would you have done?

I started to open a package of tortillas I had just purchased and
discovered that the sealed edge of the package had been removed allowing
the package to have been opened. A short time later I decided to throw them
away rather than eating any of them.

Paranoid? Probably, considering how easy it is to do something to fresh
unpackaged fruit, or if determined how easy to unnoticably get at packaged
meat, etc.

Probably wasted a package of tortillas but at ~#2.50 I figured I'd sleep
better.

What would you have done?

Taken them back to the store to alert them of a possible problem. Even if a
factory defect, it could be a P.R. nightmare these days.

and, of course, asked for a refund or replacement.

If it looked like a machine problem from the factory, or an error in
cutting when the stock boy opened the carton, as long as not stale, I'd
eat them.

If it looked like a person could have opened them, I'd have tossed them
too. Too many crazies out there.

Taken them back next time I went to the market.

I'd have called and then returned the package with the receipt to the
store. Explain at the Customer Service desk. Likely they'd have
replaced the product with a new package.

Same as I did yesterday with a ham... I phoned the store, explained
the problem, and they told me to come back with the receipt, they gave
me my money back and a $5 store coupon to use as I like.

Depending on how far the store was, I'd return them and get a new package. I
usually check packaging pretty closely before buying though, but it does
happen.

Chunking them is a good idea. Or you could give them to the neighbors or the dog etc.

Seal gone? I would have either returned it or tossed it too.

I would examine them to see if they looked like they had been tampered with.
Some of those edges just fall off easily.

Toss it, or return it to the store if it was expensive enough to be
worth the effort. There have been enough cases of product tampering to
justify being cautious, though in this case I'd put 75% odds that the
tear strip was ripped off by some obliviot's unsupervised darling
hellspawn.

I used to buy Surita (local) tortillas. Their sealing machine was bad and
several times I lost tortillas from the back end of the bag. I finally
wrote to them and told them of the problem. I think they didn't know. They
did do something about it.

For $2.50? What a waste of time and gas.

Show 'em on my next trip to that market - unless you rarely go there.
But, for 2.50, I wouldn't waste too much effort on this matter.
