Reminds me of the guy who opened a resto and offered an all you can eat baked stuffed shrimp dinner for x dollars. The biggest guy in town waddled in ( we're talking over 400 lbs here) in and downed 28 shrimp. Needless to say, THAT offer was deleted from the menu. |

I've gone to the most expensive buffet in town a couple times only to get their spicy kimchi soup when i have a cold. Both times when I asked for the check the waiters look at me in astonishment, "Soup. That all!?!?!?!?". And then I ask for some to go and they happily give me a quart-size take-out container. I was criticized for calling a Chinese dish, "lied Lice" here a while ago and the Chinese have just as many harmless stereotypes about White people as we do about them. The Chinese possibly have a lot more stereotypes about us, there's a heck of a lot more of them to work on it. |

I was criticized for calling a Chinese dish, "lied Lice" here a while ago and the Chinese have just as many harmless stereotypes about White people as we do about them. Here in StL the Chinese seem to pronounce the "f" in flied lice, but stuff like that really is harmless stereotype. Having grown up in an all White environment where at least me father was overtly racist, and now living in a community where my son's best friends are as likely to be Black as White (tonight he's having a sleepover at a Black friend's house), sometimes it's hard to walk the line between colorblind and just accepting certain cultural differences. Last Saturday there was a performance by a local theatrical troop about the Trail of Tears, http://stlouis.broadwayworld.com/art...32543_20110314 It really confronted race, and it was kind of bizarre that a Black woman portrayed President Jackson. We went to see it with a mixed race group of kids, and I almost cringed a few times at the overuse of the word, "White," but they all seemed to get it, and asked great questions afterward. So many kids seem to negotiate the awkwardness so well, and for them it's not so awkward. I think that Americans' appreciation of the culinary influences of diverse groups has to be good. Heck, I've told people oodles of times that I wished there were more Mexicans in StL so there'd be more taqueria fare. -sw --Bryan |

Maybe 30 years ago I may have tried one or two, but not now. The portions are just plain ridiculous to try. |

But #72 is doesn't require eating tons of food and I love hot peppers contests, that for sure is the one I wouldn't miss -- Vilco And the Family Stone This is post has been posted ONLY FOR THE STATS. Attorney Dan Abrams wrote a book called Man Down, and he claims that women are better at food contests than men. That may or may not be true, but speaking personally, there is no way I can eat more than my husband. Becca |

Gluttony in a country with so abundant a food supply as the US has no effect whatsoever on world hunger. In the US there is no concern about what to eat, the concern is about what not to eat. The US sends plenty of food etc. to the needy but unfortunately very little finds its way to the hungry, most ends up in the bellies and pockets of those few who can well afford anything they want. In the US no one goes hungry unless they choose to. What's grotesque are contests that pay some pinheads several millions of dollars a year to toss a ball around and then yoose juvenile *******s pay hundreds of dollars to watch while gorging on $10 tube steaks |
