I was reading the pizza posts below, and was wondering: why is a food
(any food) supposedly "better" in it's country of origin than here in the U.S.? I personally believe American pizza simply dwarfs its italian predicessor. Why is there so little italian pizza in the U.S.? Because nobody wants it! Italian "pizza" is an impotent concoction of crunchy, paper thin "bread" that is so unappetizing that it has to be covered up by a feable excuse for tomato sauce and (what appear to be) rotten, overcooked herbs like fresh basil leaves. And no, I don't like four large lumps of grainy mozzarella placed confusingly on the top. Grate your cheese, please. And give me some meat baby! |

"Wayne Boatwright" wrote in message . .. Take this man to Domino's or Papa John's. He can die happy! Wayne I've just started reading "American Pie," by Peter Reinhart. What fun. The beginning is a travel journal of his quest. This section gives a good understanding of the different types of Italian and American pies. (Haven't finished that yet.) I skimmed ahead and he gives a half dozen different crust types, lots of different intriguing topping preparations, specific pies, and ends up with foccacia. It looks to be a wonderful winter playbook. Take a look at it the next time you are at the book store; it was just published in November. Janet |

Take this man to Domino's or Papa John's. He can die happy! Hey -- I like Papa John's thin crust. Of course it isn't authentic, none of the chains are, but I don't care. I still like it. I love Donato's. They are a chain east of the Mississippi in about six or seven states. Their claim to fame is using provolone instead of mozarella. Again, not authentic, but good nonetheless. -- John Gaughan http://www.johngaughan.net/ |

I sometimes get a personal pan pizza and a salad from Pizza Hut for a quick lunch. It's usually tasty, but nothing I'd spend time sitting over for dinner. My preference is for hand-crafted rustic pizza, authentic to its Italian roots or not. Luckily, I have two places within a short drive who produce such if I don't feel like firing up the oven at home. Wayne |

Hello gorgeous people,
Just wondering....... seeing I'm considering ordering a Pizza for tea. If you *had* to order a Pizza & have it delivered............ who would you choose? ie, which companies do the best pizzas? eg, I go with Pizza Hut. I like their thin/crispy bases. There's a nearby Italian deli that's touted but their base sauce seemed to be plain ol' tomato sauce. We love Papa John's. So there! :-P I've never had Papa John's, so I can't speak for them, but Dominoes, geez. My niece and nephew were born and raised in Domino country in Michigan, and they just love! the stuff. Much to the chagrin of their mother who was born and raised within sight of Manhattan. Chains don't do especially well around here. I just pick up the phone and call Luigi, some kid brings me half plain and half sausage and peppers, made by someone in the shop by hand, not pulled out of the freezer and warmed up. nancy |

So there! :-P But what about those oddly uniform spots on the top of the cheese? Like they have a template and run a blowtorch over it to make 'freckles'. From their web site: "We pride ourselves on using cheese made with 100% mozzarella." What kind of cheese do you make with mozzarella? |

If you *had* to order a Pizza & have it delivered............ who would you choose? ie, which companies do the best pizzas? eg, I go with Pizza Hut. I like their thin/crispy bases. You might go Dominoes or some other. First of all, I wouldn't order from Dominoes if it was the last pizza place on earth. Dominoes has bad pizza, in my opinion, and that is enough reason to avoid them. The other reason is that Dominoes is aligned with some extreme right-wing religious groups, and part of your purchase price ends up funding law suites for political causes like forcing schools to teach creationism. The Thomas More Law Center was established by Dominoes founder, Tom Monaghan and is housed in the Dominoes headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Thomas More Law Center is extremely anti-gay. Thomas More lists Rick Santorum and Alan Keyes among its board members and supplies guest attorneys to Fox News network shows such as Hannity and Colmes and the O'Reilly Factor. I try to find a local pizza place to order from -- even if I have to pick-up the pizza. |
