Khorkina, Russian gymnast loser, pouted, claimed to have won, lied, and
besides, she has a body like the insect called "walking-stick". (click on the

Yeah, she got a gift with that score on bars.

She has got the longest arms I've ever seen on a woman. I hope someone
starts feeding her.

Well aren't you just charming.

Clearly, the coverage you're watching didn't show her doing the
circuit of the auditorium after the all-round competition, greeting
each competitor and specifically congratulating the gold medal winner.
This is her *third* Olympics; she's been world champion in the
all-round *three* times. Yeah, she takes it seriously -- I'm sure
she'd be devastated if she knew she didn't smile enough to make you
happy.

While the way she looks makes me very uncomfortable -- and makes me
believe there should be a minimum weight/body mass-to-height
requirement -- she is a world-class gymnast. I'd no more make fun of
her looks than I would anyone else. You might consider just how petty
it makes you appear.

Clarification: a fan site, not Khorkina's own site.

"jacqui{JB}" wrote glowingly of gymnast Khorkina's performance and demeanor,
but she didn't see what the rest of us saw.
BUT!
In the Aug.20 San Diego Union Tribune, two separate columnists revealed the
lies and posings of Khorkina.
Sullivan wrote:
"Khorkina plainly wobbled during her performance, insisting later the mistake
was 'barely noticeable'. She hinted that the judges had betrayed her, and said,
provocatively, that she was still "Olympic Champion" .Khorkina was not nearly
as gracious as she is graceful."
Patterson wrote:
"Khorkina tries, fails to upstage winner.Sure enough, at one point in her
routine, Khorkina nearly lost her balance and went off the side. "It was a
minor mistake, barely noticeable, Khorkina sneered. She said, if the judges
were Greek, I would have no difficulty winning the gold medal."
Khorkina's floor exercise was less gy mnastics and more the dance of the
diva. Khorkina assumed a scornful, resentful air. With a perplexed Patterson
sitting next to her, Khorkina took a shot at her and the reporters in front of
her.
"I know perfectly what I'm going to say," said Khorkina, mocking Patterson's
youthful speechlessness. I'M STILL OLYMPIC CHAMPION, THAT'S ALL"
Both reporters had said earlier how much Khorkina loves to show off in the
spotlight, prancing around with a flag for some time after the applause began
to die down.

After losing to Carly Patterson in gymnastics, Khorkina tried and failed to
upstage the winner. She claimed "I'm still Olympic champion, that's all !"
She was scornful and resentful of the winner, taking verbal potshots at her.
Worst sportsmanship I've ever seen in any Olympics. I don't remember
anything even close to this.

Yeah, well, her pouting and acting like a spoiled brat sure made
Khorkina look petty, too, didn't it? It was an embarassment.

Watch out with statements like that! Tonya Harding may just
whack you in the shin.

Hardly "glowingly," but apparently far less biased and subjective than
you are able to be. And which "rest of us" are you talking about?
Did *you*, personally, see her performance and the aftermath, or are
you just willing to take some columnists' word for it? I know what I
saw, and it's backed up by far more credible sources than the SD
Union-Trib (not the world's most unbiased paper -- I'm a San Diego
native and have lived most of my life there -- somehow I don't think
the paper's changed for the better in the four years since I've been
gone). I would have expected that somewhere in the coverage I saw --
Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, BBC and Eurosport -- *someone* would have
made mention of such conduct. Neither CNN nor Sports Illustrated
backs up your/the Union-Trib's claim; can you provide any other cites?

See, for example:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...astics/08/20/b
c.olympics.gymnastics.khorkina/index.html

And I still think that you comparing her to a stick insect is crappy.

Such ignorance is astounding. "From 1994 to 2002, she won five
consecutive European titles, five world titles, and two Olympic golds
on the uneven bars." See

I have yet to see that particular behavior, nor any credible
documentation of such.

I have to agree. She acted like a petulant child. But, you have to give
her some credit. I was amazed she is a world class gymnast. She appears to
break some basic laws of physics with her skeletor body which looks like it
lacks the minimal required muscle mass to do any gymnastics, let alone world
class gymnastics. To win a silver against an army of 5 foot
schwarzeneggers, I found astonishing (partly because she didn't really earn
it). No matter. She can go back to modeling where being a bitch is a di
rigeur.
