Ditto that. I don't have room for a separate "steamer" appliance in my tiny
kitchen. The insert in the pasta pot works perfectly well for me.

What is up with that? I see this stuff on tv, I think, Does everyone
have a Martha Stewart sized butler's pantry? My kitchen isn't that
small ... but where would I put a salad spinner? How about that odd
hard boiled egg sheller thing. Come on! Makes me laugh. Maybe I'm
just not a gadget person.

Hi,
I'd like to buy a steamer to cook vegetables. What features

to look
for in steamers, what are the options available.
Thanks & regards for the tips,
Miori

I use my pasta pot...
There is plenty of room between the insert and the bottom of

the pot for
water. It steams veggies, seafood, anything I want PERFECTLY!

And since
it does double duty, it takes up less storage space than a

separate
steamer. :-)

I do exactly the same thing. My pasta pot came with a steamer
insert, which is fine for small amounts. But using the pasta
insert, I can steam more than half a dozen ears of corn easily.

Ain't it grand? :-)
Works for crab legs, and shrimp too, as well as most veggies!

Picked up some sweet bicolor corn at the downtown farmers market
in Indianapolis yesterday. They pick the corn in the morning,
load it onto a pickup, and sell it right off the truck the same
morning. Streamed for 8 minutes, it was perfect! So who else eats
it cold the next day like I do?

lol (raises hand) I often cook a couple of extra ears of corn, but I
still MW them in the husk. I'll leave them in the husk in the refrig'
and peel them right before eating. Cold, no butter or salt.

Yum!

I came thisclose to buying one of those egg sheller things at a mall
kiosk. But they wanted over $10 for it. No thanks! I don't even
know if it would really work.

I am a gadget person, but the size of my kitchen reins me in :

However, recently my sister spent a week cleaning and organizing my
garage and basement. She made a lovely pantry/work area in my
basement. It was like having "Mission:Organization" come to my house!

On top of the fridge, of course.

Parkinson's Law, modified, reads "Stuff expands to fill the space
available." I've made a rule that no appliance or utensil can come
into the kitchen until one of similar size has been moved out. And I
*still* can't find room for the box of saltines I bought yesterday.
