Michael is sitting up, walking with assistance around his room and complaining
about the food but is eating a regular diet now so we can take him some decent food now and then. He begged for Hershey kisses so I took those last night with the doctor's approval. Not much to give you as an update except his blood pressure is still erratic, yesterday it went to 235 again and today is below 100. They still suspicion that he may have what is known as Pheochromocytoma, caused from the growth on the adrenal gland which produces a large amount of adrenaline at times causing his blood pressure to shoot up so high but they won't know for certain until the tests from Mayo clinic are back which will be about Dec. 7th or 8th. He is still in Intensive Care and will be until the tests come back and if he has the "PHEO" for short it will require surgery again to remove the growth and that means he will be in the hospital until sometime January. No phones in the ICU Rooms allowed. No cell phones because it interferes with equipment but he is begging me to bring my phone and I may sneak it in for him for a quick call, to whom I don't know. Cards may be sent, but no flowers or balloons in ICU. If anyone wants to send cards and letters, email . She is familiar with everyone and can filter out the idiots. Gms It's snowing in Memphis but Graceland's all alight, And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight. .....Christmas in Dixie.... |

I haven't seen it yet, but we *are* talking about Hotmail. ;-) Okay, Sarah got the address to me (thanks again!) and I've sent it to everyone who was on my request list. If you didn't get it and you know you already asked me, just ask again. I don't think I missed anyone, but I really don't care for the Hotmail interface that much, so anything is possible (but hey, it's free). If you want it and haven't asked yet, remove the "NOTSO" from my address to write me. Let's keep those cards and letters going, which reminds me, I need to get to the store and buy cards myself... :-) -- j.j. ~ mom, gamer, novice cook ~ ...fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum! |

I saw my one and only over 10 years ago during the first week of my internship. Usually very curable, that would be a happy answer to his blood pressure problems. Let's hope the doc hasn't "seen" his or hers yet. blacksalt |

Cards may be sent, but no flowers or balloons in ICU. Quoting from: http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/9.21.html#subj2.1 Medical systems and RF interference... "Edward A. Ranzenbach" Tue, 5 Sep 89 12:15 EDT Last evening I visited a local hospital ICU to check on the status of a patient I had treated and transported eariler in the day (I am a certified paramedic, in my copious spare time). The patient was on a state-of-the-art mechanical respirator. While discussing the patient's case with the attending physcian at the patient's bedside, the respirator failed, accompanied by a visual and auditory fanfare of alarms. The physcian quickly reset the device and we continued our discussion. Moments later the device once again failed and had to be reset (it should be noted that a number of differing events can cause alarms in these devices and they occasionally need adjusting and service). By the third occurance of this failure I had noticed a pattern. Each time I heard radio traffic on my portable radio (in the 800 MHz band) the respirator failed. We were not transmitting mind you, only receiving but this seemed to be enough to set off the alarms. Just then we received a call and when my partner keyed his mike to transmit several other respirators in adjoining rooms also becamed alarmed and prompted a flurry of activity to reset them. Needless to say, our radios are now banned from the unit. Unfortunately, I had to leave abruptly and did not have time to research the model or manufactuer but will follow up when the opportunity presents itself. |
