I'm still astounded by what people pay in Hawaii, but then consider the cost of freight. Wow, I'm really amazed at how expensive the milk is!! New Zealand is a dairying nation. One of the biggest dairy companies in the world is based here. We pay the same prices for milk as the export market does. The price of tomatoes has also doubled, and there are no more imports in the store than there was when they were "in season". Just my guess. :-) K. ADM has a history of price fixing to keep feed prices artificially high. They've been busted by the feds and fined plus some execs had to go do time at "Club Fed" penitentiary. Cargill controls the majority of producsers in both the chicken insustry and the poultry/livestock feed industry in Honduras. BTW, check out the websites for Cargill and ADM to see how they are vertically integrated and control everything from the financial institutions that loan money to farmers on up to grain storage, transportation, and production facilities. They even own utilities in some areas. It's rather enlightening. Sandi |

Yup -- my stupidmarket had 1 lb. for $2.00 today, so I stocked up... In Canada, socialist haven and Wolf-reputed "one-horse" country, we have marketing boards whose job it is to smooth out the bumps in the market caused by gluts and scarcity based on reasonable fluctuations. This must be our mistake, eh? :- Yeah, I'd rather get super cheap eggs all year and deal with the holiday bump. nancy |

Super-cheap eggs...yum :-\ So, glut is fine with you as long as it results in a saving over the real price of egg production? You are prepared to accept falsified seasonal shortages for the purpose of generating greater wealth for the middle-man in exchange for a product that may not be exportable because of its low production cost and hence questionable quality? You are prepared to accept falsified seasonal shortages I don't have any seasonal shortage. Plenty of eggs in the store, and on sale, too. for the purpose of generating greater wealth for the middle-man in exchange for a product that may not be exportable because of its low production cost and hence questionable quality? Be my guest :-) I don't think I would enjoy that, but thanks. And if someone is making money along the line, hey ... it's not as if there are egg farms around the corner from me, someone's being paid to fill a niche. nancy |
