Does Wendy's/McDonald's/etc. have their 99 cent menu there?
"kilikini" wrote in message ... Steven, This is the link.... http://www.mauinews.com/letters/letters.asp So far in the past week, there haven't been too many complaints (as I read). My husband (45 years old) makes $7.00 an hour at his job. I'm a free-lance computer tech, so my salary varies... I should send you a link to the Maui News Letters to the Editor.....LOTS of people complain there about food and gas prices. Oh, by the way, the price of gas is $2.37 cents a gallon. Well, my thoughts on this thansgiving are both with you/Hubby and with my family. Yours for good luck in the future under economic circumstances that would knock me for a loop..and mine for living in Massachusetts (where the economy stinks...I was unemployed for 9 mnths but have found the wonders of healthcare employment with my wife), for eggs are $1.20 and milk is $1.99 for 1%, and gas has dropped to around $1.55 per gal. Do me a favor...do send me the link...I'm seriously interested, not in visiting, but in how people deal and stick up for their rights in your area. Time for a Hawaiian President! Happy Thanksgiving! I was assuming Hawaii? This is very intersting subject that may be off topic to this group, but If above is true. I'm astounded. I can understand high prices but not average salary. This sounds like an environment where people die daily at a high rate. I live and shop in the Chicago near suburbs, and for some reason eggs have suddenly gone up about 50% in about 10 days. I was shopping in an Aldi discount supermarket today and noticed that the price of a dozen large eggs was $1.35. Two weeks ago the same eggs were 95 cents a dozen. And last week a large drug chain had large eggs at 79 cents a dozen (admittedly a sale price). As I continued shopping I found that large eggs ranged from $1.35 to $1.69 at the several stores I visited. Even Sam's Club, which is pretty competitive had large eggs at $2.54 for a dozen-and-a-half, or $1.69 a dozen. Does anyone know the reason? Several reasons: 1) reduction in numbers of laying hens because prices were too low for producers to make money. 2) slaughter of flocks for meat. 3) increased demand because of low-carb popularity. 4) holiday season. Ok, I'll top post since you did. :-)
Winter, the hens "moult" and egg production goes down. I have an organic egg customer that is none to pleased right now as I've been unable to supply him now for the past month. Oh well! Try finding a new place to live! Jeesh! I just went thru that. I found a box for $1000 a month. Count your blessings, people....... I've heard there is such a housing shortage in Hawaii that people are literally living in tents on the beaches because there are not enough houses. Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. As more farmers go out of business, the price is most certainly going to go
up to make up for the difference. It is just one certainty we have in America. ![]() "derng" wrote in message ... Sandi If the price of gas goes up (which it has yet again) then so does the price of feed since it has to be trucked. The eggs, in turn, also have to be trucked. The price of tomatoes has also doubled, and there are no more imports in the store than there was when they were "in season". Just my guess. :-) K. -- ^,,^ Cats-haven Hobby Farm ^,,^ ^,,^ "There are millions of intelligent species in the universe, and they are all owned by cats" -- Asimov Custom handcrafts, Sterling silver beaded jewelry http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAP...s&userid=katra |
