Default Question: General Electric Gel Canister Ice Cream Maker

Hi all,

I've never used an ice cream maker before and I'm looking to buy one. I
came across the General Electric Gel Canister Ice Cream Maker and it's at a
very good price so I was wondering if anyone tried it? Any comments?

Thanks a bunch,

Default Question: General Electric Gel Canister Ice Cream Maker

I haven't used a gel canister but from my experience with the Oster
Kitchen Center ice cream maker attachment, I think it would be somewhat
limiting.

1. If my ice cream maker isn't freezing fast enough, I can add ice or
salt. With the gel canister, you can't adjust the temp.

2. If I want to try 2-3 different recipes at a time (which I often do
when I get in a make-ice-cream mood), I can rinse out the canister and
add more ice and salt and keep freezing ice cream. With the gel
canister, you'd have to refreeze the canister.

3. I have an automatic ice maker in my refrigerator, so the gel feature
of not needing ice cubes isn't an asset to me.

Just some information to help you decide what's best for you. And to
reward you for reading g here's one of my favorite tested recipes:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.04

Title: Maple Pecan Frozen Yogurt
Categories: Ice cream, Favorite
Yield: 3 Cups

MMMMM----------------COLORADO HIGH COUNTRY COOKIN---------------------
2 c Yogurt, plain

In a large bowl, combine ingredients; mix well. Pour into a 1
1/2 quart or larger ice cream freezer container. Freeze
according to manufacturer's instructions.

From the recipe files of www.SteigerFamily.com: tested 6/13/2002.
Serious yummmmmm! I broke the pecans and toasted them in butter,
which always adds a wonderful taste, and used real maple syrup and
vanilla yogurt (grocery store didn't have plain in the big
containers). The only small flaw was a little of that yogurt tang, I
think I'll add a half tsp or so of lemon juice next time I make this.

MMMMM
