Miss BabyJane Hudson I was in Dallas about 4 miles from where it happened and about 3 Miles from Parkland Hospital. If I had been at work I would have been about 2 miles away, but I was working nights and was therefore at home. Never heard so many sirens in my life. Incidently, I then and still now, think he was a terrible president. Unfortunately LBJ was significantly worse. I still have a bunch of very negative Kennedy clippings from the Dallas Morning News from that day. Prior of course to the murder. -- JakeInHartsel |

Miss BabyJane Hudson I was working in the Securities Department of an insurance company in Massachusetts. There was a ticker tape machine in one of the offices in the section. We probably heard the news before most of the people in the building. Then an announcement to everyone and the office closed. I spent the week end in front of the TV. -- Susan N. My brother and I are among the small minority of Americans who were alive at the time who don't have any memories. We were both born during the Kennedy presidency so were tiny (bro was very tiny indeed at six weeks). This is why I argue vehemently that I am NOT a "Baby Boomer" no matter what the standard demographic line is about people born in 1961. IMO "Boomers" (and generations previous) remember that day. Hark! I heard BabyJane Hudson say:

Do you remember where you were when you heard about President Kennedy
being assassinated? Vividly. I was sitting in a junior high French class taught by a very young French woman who adored Jackie Kennedy. A boy who was the class troublemaker and was always late burst into the classroom shouting "someone shot the President!." The teacher, assuming that he was just acting up, went ballistic, grabbed him by the arm and sat him down in his seat, ranting at him in an colorful blend of French and English. We were horrified that he would say something like that - it was unthinkable in those innocent days and we knew he was really going to "get it." The class settled down and we were conjugating verbs when the principal came on the PA system and made the announcement. Instructed to go to the auditorium, we filed out of the room in silent shock - all except for the teacher and the boy. She was sobbing at her desk and he was consoling her...and those innocent days were over forever. NT |

I was eating lunch in the teachers' lunchroom at Hinsdale Junior High School (Illinois) and we, somehow, made it through the rest of the afternoon before dismissal at the usual time. Of course teachers and students, alike, were in a state of shock. Elaine |

I was about a year and a half from being born. I've always wondered if it were
some other president that had been assassinated would people had reacted as much. Although I would never wish such fate on anyone I keep asking myself what's so great about the Kennedy's? |
