I was home from kindergarten, and my mother put down the iron to go call
my father. I grabbed a book of matches, marched into the bathroom, shut
the door, opened the window, lifted up the seat (so I could throw the
match in and not burn the house down), and struck my very first match. I
burnt myself, threw the match in the toilet, shut the window, and went
back out and was politely sitting there looking innocent when my mother
came back. She said "I smell matches" and I said "I wonder why".
It was the first time I was left alone with matches.
Never underestimate a 5 year old.

All I can remember is being in front of the TV during the funeral and
the constant sounding of the drums during the procession. I was only a
few years old then.

I was in Dallas about 4 miles from where it happened and about 3 Miles from
Parkland Hospital. If I had been at work I would have been about 2 miles
away, but I was working nights and was therefore at home. Never heard so
many sirens in my life.

5th grade Social Studies, watching a movie, last class of the day. The
little black phone box on the wall buzzed, the teacher answered it,
and didn't say anything. She hung up and turned on the lights as she
told the kid from the AV society running the projector to shut it off.
She told the class that the President had been shot. Everyone just sat
there quietly not knowing what to say or do for a few minutes. By then
it was dismissla time and we all walked home a lot more quieter then
usual. I remember watching the funeral cortege and then watching Jack
Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald.

Do you remember where you were when you heard about President Kennedy
being assassinated?

I was deep in the bowels of a warehouse in Montreal running a printing press
for a grocery chain. My co-workers were an Irish lady (red hair, short
temper and all that), and a young french canadian lad.
The Irishwoman got right choked up when the news came over our little radio.
I don't recall the reaction of the French Canadian but I do recall thinking
that the good old US of A was going down the tubes - a thought that has
proved rather accurate.
Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
Ken.

Standing in line waiting for the final bell in 5th grade. The
teachers started whispering down the line, and a couple of them
cried. We told them we were old enough to know, so they finally
told us.

When I got home, I said "Mom! Someone shot the President!"

She didn't believe me til we turned on the radio.

I am a New Zealander and our family lived in Fiji for some years due
to my husband's business. I was in the supermarket early afternoon
in Suva talking with the American consulate's wife when someone rushed
up to us and told us they had heard it on the radio. So I can
remember it very very clearly even though I am not an American!

If you can keep your head when those around you
are losing theirs, you probably haven't understood
the situation.

I was in Lahore, Pakistan, doing biological work and just having come
in the night before from a six-week field trip. I woke up to go into
breakfast in my host's house and the Pakistani house manager told me
how sorry he was to hear the news. I had to ask him what was this
news.

That evening, we Americans were asked to gather for a service at the
home of our boss and were asked to put our drinks aside once the
ceremony began.

One of us lamented that it would be the first time that the death of
an Irishman would be commemorated by not drinking. So we ignored the
boss.

Being as though I was in the terrible twos at the time, I suspect I was
hard at work making my parents re-evaluate their decision to have kids.

He had a beautiful young wife and two cute little kids. He inspired

guy. And his morals were no better than other presidents'. And
probably no worse.

I hate to resurrect such an old thread...I just happened to see
it...but I could let this go by.

How many Presidents do you know of that did drugs while in office?

How many Presidents do you know of that paid prostitutes with our tax
money? Actually, how many Presidents do you know of that WENT to
prostitutes?...arranged in advance by members of his staff.

How many Presidents do you know of who jeopardized our national
security with this type of liaison?

I think he WAS a leader...in more ways than one. I think some future
Presidents learned from his leadership.

I wonder what the rest of the world thinks of us...and our
leadership...when they read about Presidents like Kennedy and Clinton.

They think like any adult would. Americans are extremely childish when it
comes to matters of sex. We lost a surgeon general to public outcry because
she advocated masturbation as a way to abstain from teen sex. Duh. When
future archaeologists uncover a US film vault years from now, they'll think
us a sexless, violent society.

Jack Immature.

I'm not aware of any teetotal presidents, but unless there were any,
and given that many of them smoked cigarettes of stogies, *all* of
them 'did drugs'.

Sorry...I guess I need to be more specific for you. 'Legalized'
drugs.

So? Aspirin is a legalized drug. So is alcohol.

And, beyond that, if yer thinkin' about alcohol...its not classified
as a drug.

In your mind, maybe. In terms of addiction, it most certainly is.

How many Presidents do you know of that paid prostitutes with our tax
money? Actually, how many Presidents do you know of that WENT to
prostitutes?...arranged in advance by members of his staff.

And? As far as I know, they all ate, drank, watched TV, read
newspapers, paid for by the taxpayers. The job is all found, is it
not?

Found? Typo?

Call me old-fashioned...and naive...but I didn't expect my tax money
to be spent by my President to promote illegal activities. Nor did I
expect him to participate in both of these illegal activities.

How many Presidents do you know of who jeopardized our national
security with this type of liaison?

How did this occur?

That's what I thought.

So I'll just stop here.

Glad you could stop by and grace us with your ignorance.

Trent, Trent, Trent,

Still hung up on sex.

Getting a BJ is immoral, but selling out your country, sending it's
youth off to kill and be killed for unclear motives except so your
buddies can make a buck is OK. ?

What does the rest of the world think about Clinton getting head?

They think we're fools for making such a big deal out of it.
