I'm new to the group but am looking for some good authentic French recipes. I
spent the summer in France but would like some more ideas for good recipes
involving cheese! Thanks!

Well he's right...... why come on here and ask for recipes when anyone, with
have a brain, can go to a search engine or foodtv.com or one of dozens of
recipe sources and get "suggestions" BG

This is neither stupid nor snarky. Well, maybe a *little* snarkily
put. The (unquoted) OP said "...looking for some good authentic French
recipes...involving cheese." If people ask for a generic class of
recipes, there are bezillions that can be discovered with the most
minimal effort. The first page (Google) of results from

"french cooking" cheese recipe

included at least half a dozen promising references.

Had the OP said instead "I spent last summer in France and *loved* the
cooking of X, Y, & Z areas. Had some wonderful cheese pastries that
were a little like croissants, but not so puffy. Does anyone know what
these are or have a recipe for making them at home?" he/she would have
probably generated a number of interesting and nostalgic responses.

In fact, if he/she wants "good authentic French recipes" he/she (geez,
I hate PC) might search for good authentic French recipe web sites.

I find search engine queries to be a little tricky. Jeeves doesn't do
a thing for me. :-) I dive in with words/phrases I think may work,
and refine when I get 135 pages directing me to non-relevent sites. As
I posted, a query on

turned up (on the first page) several references that, had I been
interested in the subject, would surely have been worth pursuing. I
might add that if the OP "spent the summer" in France, it (I'm giving
up he/she) could presumably have framed this in French, which would
yield far more "authentic French" results than asking a bunch of
mostly monolingual folk on a newgroup.

RFC'r's are extraordinarly generous with information and recipes. I,
in fact, made one friend-for-life by copying out (and if you could see
the Computer Pantry, you'd know what an effort it was) dear Julia's
detailed recipe/method for making pasta. However, when someone posts
"i need chiken recipees -- e-mail to..." I don't think it's a *bit*
rude to refer them to Google, AltaVista, etc.
