....to eat a peach?

Yes, actually. It was from Parker County, Texas. It was so delicious
I nearly cried.

I love T. S. He's my favorite stuffy dead anglophile poet.

It's from the poem, Bob. Context is everything. "The Love Song of J. Alfred
Prufrock." Remember? High school reading.

The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock

No Googling involved.

What do I win?

I happen to also hold T. S. Eliot in high esteem. At least a couple parts of
"The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" could have been specifically written
for cybercat. Here they a

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.

and

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each
I do not think that they will sing to me.

Then there's the description of one of cybercat's "dates" in "The Waste
Land":

He, the young man carbuncular, arrives,
A small house agent's clerk, with one bold stare,
One of the low on whom assurance sits
As a silk hat on a Bradford millionaire.
The time is now propitious, as he guesses,
The meal is ended, she is bored and tired,
Endeavours to engage her in caresses
Which still are unreproved, if undesired.
Flushed and decided, he assaults at once;
Exploring hands encounter no defence;
His vanity requires no response,
And makes a welcome of indifference.
. . .
Bestows one final patronising kiss,
And gropes his way, finding the stairs unlit...

She turns and looks a moment in the glass,
Hardly aware of her departed lover;
Her brain allows one half-formed thought to pass:
'Well now that's done: and I'm glad it's over.'

[Well, OK, the poem left out the part about $3.50 on the nightstand.
cybercat always needs about $3.50.]

Do you like peaches? I have a few left, and they are amazing.

On second thought, I'd hazard that a shark's tastes run more to
"mermaids singing, each to each."

Mmmmm. Mermaids....

Right on. They're a lot meatier than a pair of ragged claws scuttling
across the floors of silent seas.

Seems like peaches are once again in season. Got some from the
supermarket two days ago and they were medium hard, sweet and very
juicy. They don't tend to last more than a couple of days around here.

I'd say the two of us go through about 15 or so pounds of fruit a week.
When prices run 50 cents to about $1.50 I'll usually buy more.

I had a nice ripe Suncrest peach this morning. It was pretty good.

I've been enjoying both Fresno County and Yolo County (California) peaches
for a few weeks now. The Yolo peaches are in my farm box, the Fresno
peaches I get at the farmer's market. They have samples so I can decide
what's best this week .
