Over the years, Mr. Harding’s cooking has changed too, getting
relentlessly simpler and simpler.

“It’s a lot of fun when you’re by yourself and you have all these
frilly bits and complications,” he said. “But if the kid cooking for
you has just graduated from cooking school and is a little shaky, you
want to keep it simple.”

For example, his Gowanus Yacht Club chili recipe is canned chili,
orange soda and spices, thickened with crumbled Doritos.

If he dares to serve that kind of slop at that location, remind me never to
try any of them.

For sure. Anyone knows you're supposed to use Fritos, not
Doritos.

It's a beer and hot dog place. Did you read the article that was cited?
I would recommend it. The guy has opened practically every kind of
restaurant.

Yes, I read the entire article and found it interesting. Still, any damn
fool that would concoct the "chili" described and pass it off as any sort
of restaurant fare, beer and hot dogs notwithstanding, makes me wonder what
the hell he's doing with the other food in other restaurants. Anywhere
near Manhattan one can find verifiably good food without wondering.

I would expect a beer and hot dog place to serve better chili than that.

I like the idea. I wonder what his spices are? I'm a big canned chili
fan as long as the chili is 'Stagg's Chili Laredo'. Beans 'n all. I can
eat it at room temp right out of the can.
Now I can fantasize about orange soda and stuff mixed in with all its
ordinary goodness.

Disgusting! Oddly enough, there is one brand of canned chili I will eat on
occasion...Kroger Hot Chili with Beans.

How about 'Kroger Hot Chili with Beans' and a cup of orange soda. What's
not to like? It'll stand alone without some mysterious spices. You go
first.

LOL! I'm not terribly fond of orange soda. If it's got to be soda, then
it would have to be Coke. Otherwise, I'd rather have iced tea.
