Heya folks,

I took my laptop into the shop yesterday, to see if it could be fixed
and anything salvaged. They just called me, and told me they were
able to recover my data.

So it looks like I will get all my recipes back!!

By the way, the hard drive died..that was the problem. They put in a
new hard drive, so that should be fixed....

I do have a backup now, and I will definitely be backing everything
up.

Price for all of this? $215, which I am thinking is totally
reasonable for a new hard drive and recovery of all the data....

Now, to celebrate (tonight or tomorrow) I will fix one of those saved
recipes ..... I will have to look to see what I have.....

Christine, who is so very, very relieved!!!

Not a bad price at all. "Simple" data recovery using a program like
SpinRite is not so bad and that price seems great when you look at the
costs associated with a full "forensic" type recovery case. Those can
quickly reach $1000 and more depending on the size of the drive.

Plus they are doing a "tuneup"....

The recovery of all the data makes it all worthwhile. While my
cooking stuff, recipes is important, I had other files, etc that I
need as well.

To turn this back to food, I wish I could remember all the recipes I
had saved on there. I know I had many of them from all of rfc...
I am thinking that I will make a whole meal from the recipes there....
I will be THAT excited!!!

Good for you! Are you backing up your whole drive to an external drive with
imaging software, or just your data on a flash drive. I had a flash drive
with all of my backed up data fail.

I just did a crashed laptop for somebody and I charged them 390.00 so you
got a really good deal. You can't beat memory sticks for convenience but
I'd get a little portable external drive for backups. Get one with the 2.5
inch laptop drive, not the full size 3.5 inch drive. They are much more
rugged.

Glad to hear that Chris!

OBRecipes: I made a roast chicken last night and the kidlette came into the
kitchen when we were about to carve it and said, "Where are the lemons?"
LOL! I had to explain to her that I couldn't find any decent lemons (not
the right time of year here) so I couldn't make the p0rn0 chicken. She was
not amused...
