Rachael Ray won a daytime Emmy for her talk show.

ugh, at least that fundy bitch from the View didn't win.

I unintentionally got caught in the Daytime Emmy Awards traffic mess

in
Hollywood Friday. Going for lunch with a friend, and besides the

usual
Hollywood traffic and road repairs, it was just awful. Then we
discovered that it was Emmy Day. And we were going to lunch in the
Kodak complex on Hollywood Boulevard, where the show was happening

that
night. Finally got to the restaurant, not far from the "red carpet",
and while waiting for our orders two of the cameramen and the video
controller for the show, that I know from working with them, checked

in
to wait for a table. One of them thought my friend and I were working
the gig, too, and gave us some friendly shit about us old guys "still
working". Anyway, travel in that part of town was just impossible.
And it was about 100 degrees F with a bad air conditioner in my
friend's car.[1] Whew! Great salad, though. Oh, and the
girl-watching was just supurb.

[1]Around 6PM I saw a bank thermometer sign saying it was 111.

That sounds like fun well, but for the 111F part. I don't think I
could take that kind of heat.

Think of it as Cleveland at 90F and 95 relative humidity. :-)

Now, that's not very nice
back to cooking .... At least I could get my solar oven to work at 111F.

Believe me, I know. I lived in Cleveland for 43 years.

The past week in Phoenix has not had a day under 112°F. It is now 5:00
a.m. and it's nearly 90°F. already.

I think I will have a nice cold salad for lunch.

I don't know how you do it. While I really hate living here ... I'm not sure
that I would like living there any better. At least there isn't snow there.
Salad, good idea.

I spent 33 years in Michigan before moving to Hollywood. Some nasty
summer weather is a good trade off for your winters. We really only have
about a month of oppressive heat in the average summer; you have winter
too much of the year.

We tend to live a "reverse" seasonal schedule that you do in Cleveland.
When we lived there, apart from the daily grind of going to and from work,
most of winter days were spent in indoor activities except for the
occasional forays to go ice skating, or something of that nature.

Here we spend most of our summer days inside avoiding the heat. Early
mornings and most evenings are quite tolerable. The rest of the year is
generally wonderful.

I wouldn't trade our climate for going back to snow country for anything.

We have a HUGE batch of CSA greens. Today I'll be making soup and salad
for dinner. Soup is Turkey meatball w/ kale and salad ... all the
greens we can eat. I was thinking about making some kind of bread ..
but it's already too hot for that.

Sounds like delicious summer dinner!

I don't bake a lot in the warm weather here, but if I really want something
I will crank up the oven. I also have one of the old Westinghouse
roaster/ovens on the stand, which puts out far less heat and works well for
baking many things.

(btw, the soup will be cooked outside on the grill burner ... I love
that thing. I'm looking for breads that can be made on the grill.

I love having the side burner on the grill. It does save a lot of heat
being generated inside. However, I have a glasss top electric range, and
find that it actually throws off very little heat with a correctly sized
pot on one of its elements.

Last summer I did bake a cherry and a strawberry pie in the outdoor grill
with great success. At least in the case of our grill, I made sure that I
added height away from the grill surface for the pie plate to rest on so as
not to burn the bottom. Holding an accurate temperature was easy. I see no
reason why you couldn't do bread in the grill.

I'd spend some time under a blanket with her as long as she didn't

don't like blonds, but she's hot. But she certainly is a bitch.

Of course, in some [ahem] areas, you can ski in the morning and surf in
the evening. Or replace one of those with "go hiking in the desert", if
you prefer.

You missed the show where she was bitching that people shouldn't be
allowed to smoke in their apartments because it bothers her.

i don't watch the show much at all,

We don't have cable at the cottage so that's the only time I see it.
We were there lots late last summer, but I only see it now if there's
a holiday and Louise turns it on.

but the two i mentioned are pretty pathetic.

The most cringable and teeth - knashing Rosie Thing was a show on the gay
cable channel Logo called something like "Cruising With Rosie And Family".
it was about a gay cruise for gay families with kids. Rosie The Annoying
Bulldyke and her "family" were of course the prime feature. Nauseating,
shall we say...

And whoever said gays have "better taste" missed the boat with this Logo
channel. Truly, the insipidity of it stinks...

Sorry you did not care for the show. I found it enjoyable, at least most
of it. I am a cruise nut, maybe that is why I liked it.

Rosie was on Paula Dean's new Friday night show a few weeks ago. I'm
still astonished that TV executives actually put that crap on. It was
like looking at a train wreck.
