It's a matter of refreshing rfc at the right time.... timing is the key. We have so many posters that you often put up a survey between me refreshing and making it down the list to your post. 39 survey voters later, I find it and respond. On the bright side, I managed to win a TFH once and I live on the West Coast. IMO: You do a good job of trying to give everyone in the world a chance at being "first". Even us on the West Coast USA, Oz & NZ. Not sure how Indonesia and Japan fare, but you have to sleep sometime. ![]() Why, thankee, sf. ;-) These 'time differences' can be a PITA, but I just have to live with it. I usually only catch the 'very late nite (USA) owls' in the chat channel too, and often miss everybody altogether. But sometimes I catch the odd person from UK and Europe - with a few NZ folk occasionally ;-) Don't think we've got any Japanese r.f.c-ers; can't say I've seen anybody posting from there, or in chat, but then again, maybe they just 'lurk' here, who knows? Would be nice to have some Japanese foodies sharing recipes and cooking tips... I live in hope. -- Cheers Chatty Cathy Egg tastes better when it's not on your face... |

I threw it in because there are so many American bases in the vicinity and one of our regulars just returned to the US from that area not too long ago. -- See return address to reply by email remove the smile first |

We still produce most of our own meat and imported beef comes from our side of the world, not Europe. By eating imported beef, we're contributing to the demise of Central American rain forests and *that* concerns me more than BSE. -- See return address to reply by email remove the smile first |

Short answer: You snooze, you lose. Long answer: it was around 8.45am on the "West coast, USA" when I put up this (particular) survey (which was around 6.45pm in RSA)... Therefore, Mister Old Scoundrel, may I point out this fact: If you snooze, you lose. so the sun rises earlier over there than here. big deal. that just makes you older than everyone else... your pal, blake |

There was absolutely nothing in your cite that indicted American beef. From the cite: "The two previously reported vCJD case-patients in U.S. residents were each born and raised in the United Kingdom (U.K.), where they were believed to have been infected by the agent responsible for their disease." And: "This latest U.S. case [the third case] occurred in a young adult who was born and raised in Saudi Arabia and has lived in the United States since late 2005. but what if we accidentally eat their brains! omgomg we're all gonna die!!! your pal, blake |

Giusi wrote: "Dimitri" ha scritto nel messaggio news ![]() "ChattyCathy" wrote in message he problem with BSE and th human form (CJD Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease ) is the amount of time it CAN take for the disease to develop. It's known, so the real problem is the development in animals. When the system takes this disease seriously, things change in the entirety of the vertical market. For example, beef over 30 months old is not sold here. Every animal sold for consumption has a label that tells where it was born, where reared, where slaughtered. Every animal also has a unique number so that all of that animal can be pulled before it hits supermarket shelves if the brain tissue tests imperfect. Italy has had 2 cases in animals that I recall, none in humans yet. The herds were destroyed, as I remember, but Italian herds are pretty small-- maybe 36 to 50 animals for most growers. It is amazing to me that anyone would buy meat without knowing what country it came from. No choice about that in the US. Not required to state country of origin on many products, not just meat. |
