Tara,

There's an idea that never occurred to me. Will try!

Never occurred to me, either. I guess that's because it's a
vegetable. And I don't see any connection with drinking water.

But *is* cucumber a vegetable, really?

Funny how Evian spelled backwards is "naive".

I agree Brita makes a great product. Just make sure you stay on schedule
with filter changes. Over use of the filters can result in painful
stomach
upsets.

Hubby is very good about keeping track of when the filter needs to be
changed and takes care of it as needed. (I may do everything else around the
house, but he does do this one thing pretty well.

I've bought bottled water since forever they began selling it.

I was out and filled a gallon container and let it sit out to let the
chlorine dissipate out and it didn't taste half bad.

Do you drink straight out of the tap, filter or buy bottled water?

I need to buy another pool test kit to test the resting gallon jug of water
side-by-side with the bottled water and see which fares better.

Got a touch of "the runs" but that could've been the treat
pepperoni/sausage pizza and a 10 day past prime chugging of fat free milk.

Got science? And free time? Apply here. Free advice also accepted.

How do you get your drinking water?

Have two Brita pitchers going. I pay the city for water - don't have
a well, nor want one.
Rarely buy the bottled stuff.

Jill,

Since it has seeds, it's probably a fruit but I never did harvest
cucumbers. So I'll toss a coin.

Heads or tails?

I only drink water from the bathroom tap. The water
from the kitchen tap tastes bad. I think it might be
the pipes. I also used to buy 2 1/2 gallon jugs with
the special spout/tap to keep in the fridge as I like
my water ice cold. I've gotten away from that in the
last couple of years because I can't find a large
(2 1/2 gallon jug) that has a decent spout. There was
a brand that had a great spout but it disappeared
from the market. The others are all crap and tend to
leak. After they discontinued the good brand I kept
on of theirs and reused it for many years (just
bought the 1 gal. bottles and refilled it) but
it finally succumbed to some sort of mold or
mildew or something so I had to toss it. I don't
like using the small individual type of bottles
as it's wasteful but I get them for special occasions,
like to take along on a trip.

So nowadays, I mainly drink the water from the
bathroom tap. And most of the year if you let it
run a little while it's nice and cold. I don't
even bother with ice cubes these days.

I am reminded of the salesman who 'promised' his water filter would take out
all the impurities. He took a tap sample and said, "when I put in a drop of
this (chemical) the water will turn yellow and show all the impurities you
drink everyday. The darker the yellow, the more impurities". He put in the
drop and nothing happened. My water is pure.
He didn't get a sale and left the neighborhood.

I love it! But, now, I'll throw out this question. Has anyone found
great, around 1 quart or liter bottle to fill up with your own water? I'm
on the quest for a stainless steel bottle to fill up to bring with me to
work each day. After reading about all the leeching that is going on with
the plastic bottles, I stopped using all of mine... I found a great one,
but it's only 16 oz:

I guess I could get two of them, but that'll get a bit cumbersome.

Sharon

Bu ONE bottle of bottled water and use that from now on.

True. I thought it was from disposal of the drugs, but it's also from
human waste and apparently doesn't get filtered out.

The brighter the yellow, the higher the chlorine. A simple pool test kit
will tell you that. Should have one for the house water!

I just typed in "distilled water unhealthy" in google and got this.
Essentially, it leaches minerals from the body because water needs or
craves minerals to be chemically correct water, and so it leaches it
from the body if we drink it too much, or something like that.

- - - - begin forward - - - -

It has been shown that drinking low mineral water creates a net loss
of nutrients in the body. The nutrients are leached from the body by
distilled water. Some sellers of distilled water have claimed that
nutrients in the body are somehow protected from the effects. This
would be nice, but animal and human studies show that it simply does
not work that way. Some other health effects have been correlated to
drinking distilled and deionized water such as:

Direct effects on the intestinal mucous membrane, metabolism and
mineral homeostasis or other body functions.
Low intake of other essential elements and microelements.
Possible increased dietary intake of toxic metals

Or nothing like that. How can you believe such
preposterous crap? The major source of minerals
in your diet is food, not water.

Bottled water is a huge waste of money so I avoid it whenever possible.
At home, I drink filtered water from a Britta pitcher; it is much
cheaper per gallon than bottled water, more environmentally friendly,
and it tastes fine.

At work, I drink the water from the water cooler in our kitchen, which
is in those huge five gallon bottles.

The only time I buy bottled water is if I am somewhere where I can't get
a cold drink of water any other way.
