from a dug well. 13' down to the water level, so it's not a
deep well. i have it tested annually. it's good water.
i also have a drilled well. 276'. it's nasty. full of rust &
iron bacteria. smells bad, looks bad, tastes bad. i have a
filter system for that well if i have to use it, but then it
tastes like the water softener to me, so i buy 5 gallon jugs
of drinking water.

Default Water

On Tue 20 May 2008 03:20:11p, Andy told us...

Water

I've bought bottled water since forever they began selling it.

I was out and filled a gallon container and let it sit out to let the
chlorine dissipate out and it didn't taste half bad.

Do you drink straight out of the tap, filter or buy bottled water?

I need to buy another pool test kit to test the resting gallon jug of
water side-by-side with the bottled water and see which fares better.

Got a touch of "the runs" but that could've been the treat
pepperoni/sausage pizza and a 10 day past prime chugging of fat free
milk.

Got science? And free time? Apply here. Free advice also accepted.

How do you get your drinking water?

Andy

We filter our water for home use. That's pretty much all the bottled water
companies do. We do buy bottled water for traveling in the car. Both of
our offices have filtered water available.

Our tap water is drawn from a river and treated. It is undoubtedly safe
and wholesome, but the flavor is slightly sour and tainted with
chlorine. I fill a Brita pitcher from a sink-tap filter, and keep it in
the refrigerator. The result is perfectly drinkable, so I use it to
refill the bottled-water bottles I still occasionally buy.

Quite unfortunate and disgusting at the same time.

oh it's not THAT bad Andy!

and not sure where you went to find all women with small breasts, but that's
certainly not the case in my family lol

BTW, I have an installed in-line water filtration unit

Out of the tap. Memphis (area) water is excellent. I do have one of those
Brita pitchers but I don't always remember to fill it up.

This would probably be a good spot for injecting an image of the stuff my
Brita catches that I'd rather not drink.

http:/blinkynet.net/stuff/stuffinwater.jpg

Naturally, that's just the visible stuff. Naturally, I don't now how much
is in the actual filter. But I have to clean it out of the little holes
in the shower head, too. And if I've been away for a few days, the water
often comes out quite brown for a while. I'm not blaming the city; but
wherever in the system it comes from, it's still with which I have
to contend. So I filter. That's consistent with my approach to Usenet,
too.

I get mine straight from the tap, it's treated city water from deep
wells. City sends out the analysis required by state law every quarter
and I read them and feel the water is safe.

We live in an agricultural area, and the water from our well is pretty
dodgy. We wash in it, brush our teeth with it, use it for cooking, and
the pets drink it, but I don't trust it for more than that.

We have a dispenser, and we buy our water in town 5 gallons at a time.

We've thought of installing a UV filter, but we'd still have to buy
water for coffee because our well water is really really hard and it
would gunk up the coffee maker in about 2 weeks.

Jo Anne

Thanks for reminding me - I also buy distilled water in gallon jugs for
about seventy cents each, solely for use in brewing coffee. I can handle
the minerals in my water, but my coffee maker cannot...

You spend good money on someone else's tap water, duh... I have an RO
filter... much better than any bottled water, only 5 cents a gallon,
and I don't have to lug jugs.

OK, while we're still on topic...

Do you lemon or lime your water for a little tang/flavor?

Andy
Mr Wizard Wannabe but would rather be wizzing and wondering lemon or lime???

That would make me Mister Wonder While You Wiz.

I know what a horrible mental picture that must be to the membership! I
couldn't resist. Apologies!

I use filtered water for cooking and for pets (Pur pitcher). For
drinking I almost never drink anything but room temp Pellegrino or some
other mildly carbonated mineral water. I drink too much to use those
little 'make your own bubbly water' and those carbonate far too much as
well.

We get our water from spring fed reservoirs and it has a clean taste so
we drink it from the tap. Is your water that insipid stuff like in
Philly that they pump out of the Schuylkill River?

I almost never buy bottled and bring it in reusable bottles when leaving
the house and a big coleman jug to fill the water bottles when we go
biking.

When my boys were babies, we asked our pediatrician if we needed to
mix their formula with bottled water, boiled water, or what. She told
us that water straight from the tap was fine and that she knew what
was in our local water but not what was in bottled water from unknown
origins. I _think_ she told us that tap water was under tighter
safety restrictions than bottled.

Straight from the tap is fine with me. I drink water all day so I
refil a sports bottle to carry around with me. My guys drink lots of
ice water.

A filter jug is one too many steps for me, but I would probably try a
faucet filter if I lived somewhere with bad tasting water.

Try cucumber slices in your water -- very cool and refreshing.

I forget the name exactly but it was called, maybe, "The Central Market"
The commercial few blocks of no traffic shopping.

And it was just a personal observation. Other women in NSW and Queensland
were more chesty!

It was a matter of the water supply that was just so salty you could taste
it showering. Every other part of the continent we went to, we got rain
water collection showers.

It was the salt in the river that after irrigation the remaining water that
filtered into town was salt laden. It was explained to me but I can't
explain it exactly right any more.

We have a 600' deep well, however some friends that live in town swear by
the "Brita" filters. They have a pitcher w/filter and a filter on the
faucet in their wet bar.

They say the Brita water tastes as good, if not better, than bottled
water.

Personally, I still prefer my well water.

I was raised on well water which I loved, but after moving to a larger area,
the city water tasted horrible to me. I have been on Culligan (water cooler
water) for years now, and can't stand tap water anymore. I will drink from
water fountains only when desperate.

We just received a letter in the mail last week that our city's water supply
tested higher than approved for some hazardous chemical or another. Here in
Missouri, it's hit or miss. My grandma's tap water tastes great, and she
lives in a small town 30 miles from me. My tap water tastes vile.
