I imagine there are a lot of readers here. Which book are you
currently reading and what are your thoughts on it? I just finished "Evil Brothers, A True Crime Story" which was hard to read. The story revolved around two brothers who killed 9 people and was suspected in three other murders. All of this happened in Toledo, Ohio over a two year period. And you? Anthony |

I'm reading Oil by Upton Sinclair because I've recently seen the movie "There will be Blood". I'm only about 50 pages in, so too soon for thoughts. I'm also reading Basic Brown. It's a collection of political anecdotes by (with collaboration) Brown, a recent past Mayor of San Francisco and Speaker of the California Assembly. |

Sinclair is a hero, and Willie is quite a guy himself. Moderate Lefty thinking seems to be regaining momentum, and it's way overdue. The cynic in me says that that Obama won't be an only slightly reconstructed New Dealer, but I hope he is going to turn out to be more the aggressive populist than the principled Lincoln-type pragmatist. His rejection of the gas tax holiday, and what he said about employment in infrastructure in that context gives me hope. Only hard work and SHARED sacrifice, especially sacrifice by those at the very top, can restore this country. I, for one, am willing to help. --Bryan |

Not reading any right now, as I am busy unpacking from my trip home to New Mexico, and getting ready for my conference next week. But, as can be expected, I have several on my wish list...and as soon as things settle down a bit here, I might indulge myself. One I would like is Arthur Schwartz's book on Jewish comfort food. Another one is one I keep on hearing about, by Simon Hopkinson: Roast Chicken and Other Stories. I can't even begin to list all the others I want to read....LOL Christine |

Anthony I'm currently re-reading "Joe Celko's SQL for Smarties: Advanced SQL Programming", since we are implementing some new applications. As far as cookbooks go, I'm also re-reading "The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook", just for fun. I don't think I could find hashish for the confection she detailed. :-) And a first read of "Mary Berry's Ultimate Cake Book". I love English cakes. -- Wayne Boatwright ------------------------------------------- Saturday, 05(V)/10(X)/08(MMVIII) ------------------------------------------- Countdown till Memorial Day 2wks 1dys 3hrs 30mins ------------------------------------------- Useless Invention: Electric banana straightener. ------------------------------------------- |

Hopefully, Obama's command of the English language surpasses your presentation of the written word. "He's a well educated and dynamic." He's a well educated and dynamic what? Word to the wise: "Don't try to start a flame if you are going to **** on your own match." |

It is the first novel of his that I have ever read... It is a 2 novels in one book... I am about to begin the second novel..'The Pelican Brief'.... I hope he takes care of the ending a little better than he did in 'The Firm' though... I enjoyed his book .but felt that the story needed a much more 'descriptive' and explanatory ending than it got!... And I always have a stack of cook books on the side for when I just sit down at the table and having a 'cuppa'.. :-) Bigbazza (Barry) Oz |
