I didn't have a thought in my head other than getting a cup of coffee when
I went into the kitchen. I poured a cup and then got out a rib roast rub it with penzeys shallot pepper and granulated garlic set the oven for 350F for 2hours and put the roast in the oven, then left the kitchen. After I sat at the computer for about 3 minutes I went back into the kitchen for my coffee. Other than death is there a cure for this, losing one focus that is? -- The house of the burning beet-Alan A man in line at the bank kept falling over...when he got to a teller he asked for his balance. |

Couple of questions first: a) have you put the milk in the pantry and the cereal in the fridge? b) have you ever turned on the oven and then put a roast in the fridge? c) have you ever got out of your car, left the engine running and the drivers door open and walked into your house? If you have done two of the three you are related to my DW. I still love her though. VBG |

I was particularly aware of it when my kids were small. There was one door I called "the portal of forgetfulness" because I'd have a thought on one side... step through the doorway it to do what I was thinking about, then get sidetracked and completely forget about what I was going to do until I went back through that doorway again. I need a cure, too, I just lapped the supermarket 3 times filling my list. Even though it's a store I'm not too familiar with, I still should have been more focused on what I was looking for. I'm easily distracted. nancy |

I have to make sure I always set my keys in the same place or I turn the place upside down trying to find them. I went to the market for some bell peppers, that was all I needed for dinner. Came home with everything but the bell peppers and had to go back. Paul |

I've noticed I'm doing this more frequently, too... Starting one task, getting distracted with a complete tangential (often random) task, finishing that and ignoring the primary. Gahdferbid the primary was time-sensitive... Meals are often the root cause of mine, too, so I'm often forgiven... No cure, though. My GP did get a good laugh when I mentioned it to him. Done a similar thing with putting bread into the toaster but not turning that on either. Then there's putting a pot of something on the cooker but never switching that on. Have made any number of recipes, leaving out a key, but available, ingredient. Take comfort in the fact that it's *not* age related! |
