I had an argument with someone about this.
He swears that chocolate truffles are sometimes
made with actual truffles. (Blecch!) I've never
heard of such a thing and can't imagine why anyone
would do it. I'd like to know if they exist so I
can be on my guard against them. If someone offers
me a chocolate truffle, will I have to ask if there's
truffles in it?

They are called truffles because they have an appearance
vaguely similar to the fungus truffle., not because they are
made with them. They come in lots of different flavours,
so I suppose that anything is possible, but that is a
truffle flavour that I just don't see happening. I suppose
the best way for him to prove his point is to get some for
you. I am not sure if you would want to eat it. Frankly, it
sounds disgusting.

OK. some hoity toity chocolatier is adverting an obscenely expensive truffle
truffle that sells for $2,600. Now you have to wonder if they really do make
and sell them on a regular basis or if it is just a come on for the wealthy
and self indulgent, the type who feel better about themselves if they buy the
most expensive chocolates.

Personally, I think they sound revolting.

Seems to me that it is up to him to prove that it is so.

Note I said prove, not just assert.

Who *is* that person? Hopefully no one close enough for you to
care.... because he's arguing just because he likes to argue! Tell
him you'll be happy to accompany him while he buys one of every
chocolate truffle he can find and you'll taste them all (for the sake
of science, of course). Let him know you are open to discovering one
made with real truffles.

Actually, I think they are called "truffles" because you can *pig out*
on them if you're not careful. However, here's the real answer

Oh, I am *quite* sure I would not want to eat it!!!!
I don't eat fungus!!!! (With the exception of the
yeast in bread.) It does sound disgusting but I bet
the people who like the bacon/chocolate combo would
love it. ;-)

Nope, I don't think so. I'm not going to taste them.
If there were one with actual truffles in it I would
not want to accidentally ingest any of the fungus. Blecch!
He can taste them himself and show me the truffle!
